Shirts and stuff? Do you even get a table if youre sponsered by them?

Of course it depends on the level of sponsorship, but no, not generally a table. The average top junior will get 4 or more rubbers per month, and approximately 3 of their chosen blades (replaced as needed). They will also get branded clothing, footwear, bags, batcases, etc. The amount and type depends on your deal. If you play top level, and in televised tournaments, the brands are obviously willing to give you pretty much anything, as it's good exposure for them. If you play in a 'rich' country (like the UK, where people spend quite a lot on TT), and are ranked fairly high as a junior or adult, you'll also be given a fair amount of stuff. They know they'll get plenty of business from lower-ranked people and club players enviously looking at it all.

One of my friends was a BTY sponsored junior.
It was speed glue era still

3 Blades
6 rubbers every month
Speed glue (not sure how many)

Once off (for x time frame):
2 x Shoes
Few Shirts and shorts
T Shirt
Towels
1 x Tracksuit
Carry Bag
Racket Case
Practice Balls (I think 288 of them)

His coach was also sponsored, but with clothes and bags only
I think they also organise barriers for his club as well as practice balls.
No table/net or robot

6 rubbers a month? So 72 sheets a year?? Sounds kind of suspect to me, unless your friend was the #1 junior in the US and played so many tournaments that giving him/her that kind of exposure paid off in terms of marketing.

he got his things every 3 months
I remember it was 18 rubbers for 3 months usage in speed glue days.
If it was based on marketing, then hardly any one will get sponsorships nowadays.

Sadly he got injured in an acident 1 to 2 years ago, and his contract with Bty ended too, as he couldn't continue playing in the same level as before. I don't know what his "package" was 2 years ago, from the above was about 7 years ago.

From memories his first batch (I helped him with customs clearance):
Rubbers was Bryce FX
Blades were Timo Boll Spirit

I know he only used 2 blades, which will need 4 rubbers. Not sure how he uses the other 2 rubbers.
But in speed glue days, the rubbers don't last long. So 6 rubbers is not alot

Tabten5, could you comment? I remember you were sponsored by Yasaka?

I was sponsored as a cadet/junior player and got pretty much the same stuff as ZApenholder mentioned above - except I only got 4 rubbers a month (2 red and 2 black), and I also only got 1 blade but could request more as I needed them (either because of damage or if I was looking to try a different blade).

I can't say I've ever heard of anyone getting tables, robots, and such... but then again I don't know. As a sponsored player I imagine you could probably get a decent discount though.

I was sponsored over 20 years ago, so thing may have changed of course.

That sounds like a great deal. Sorry if I came off harsh in my original post, btw. From how stingy Butterfly has been known to be with their sponsored players, I just couldn't believe it at first. If only they offered similar deals to everyone...

No worries at all, my memory is from about 7 years back and it can indeed be wrong too. I just remember 3 blades with 2 rubbers each.
I can also try and contact my friend and ask him what his last package was before he got an accident.
In his situation, he was more under ITTF development program and got his sponsorship arranagement by someone in ITTF as well as Butterfly scouts when he was in some junior event back them.

From Pondus and Tablen5, we can see it is (atleast) 4 rubbers, so 1 set every 2 weeks - which sounds about right.

I honestly don't know what his US rating would be, and no he is not a US player

One of my other friend used to play in the Sweden second division, and from asking from other threads, he could be between 2350 to 2550.
Some one else I know used to play in Belgium - I think A league/division and He has a 70-30 record with the "Sweden 2nd div" friend guy

This BTY sponsored friend of mine is about the same level as the Belgium guy

Hm... does the above make sense? lol

This makes much more sense now. I know that the US distributors of Butterfly have been historically very stingy with shelling out products for their sponsored players. If he is an international player then I believe it.

I think for these guys it is more money than sport nowadays (consider how pricing has increased, where the rest of other Japan made stuff pricing has been reduced - all other export items)

I also know one guy who sponsored a player out of his own capacity. I think he gave him a cheque of $800 ~ $1000 for equipment purpose too - that was about 9~10 years ago.
I think nowadays, $1000 will get you less than 10 years ago right?

Yeah, that is the lowest i've heard too.
and 2 different blades....

i did hear that he did send in request through for more (about mid way through the year) and he did get some extra rubbers at no charges, but still his contract was based on 16rubbers a year

people often get confused between a direct sponsorship with a manufacturer, and a sponsorship from an appointed supplier.
The Older I get, The better I was.
