Good match. The main difference was the BH blocking and attacking.Asmir's blocks were lower and he could attack some what with his BH. Donald's blocks were usually too high and could be attacked. Overall it was Asmir that set the pace. I adhere to Pushblocker's advice and try to keep the ball lower so the ball clears the net by two to four inches. One can see Donald's blocks went much higher. |

Nice win. I see Donald didn't go w/ his black fedora.
Do you have video of the finals? The guy you played in the finals used to have trouble with pips, I'm curious to see if it's still the case. What do you have on your blade? 1 thing I noticed (that Donald apparently did not) is that you were having trouble with deep top spin serves (seemed like it didn't have a ton of spin) to your backhand and wide forehand. If it wasn't deep enough you had no trouble, but if it was deep you struggled especially on your BH. It looked like you noticed because you tried chopping it once. On the FH side you didn't miss, but you served a few up there for easy smashes. You played a much more consistent game and controlled the pace so it was a well deserved win.

Thank you for support HOOKUMSNIVy ... Yes, I was lucky he did not see what you see, and I did realize later in the game to start chopping instead of attacking his services. On the end it did change pace :)

Donald could play at 1800 or at 2000- depends on his physical shape and mood. I guess. Last time I played him (more than a year ago) I wasn't that lucky - I was in bad shape (very bad tournament for me) and he killed me 3-0. Then he almost beat Brian Gao (at his then 2050 level) in an extremely tough match - I actually started coaching Don in that match as he was getting angry at himself and I pointed out to him that he should simply push with LP to Brian's BH (back then certainly his weaker side) and then wait for the pop up which he would then attack with flat FH hit. It all went well until Donald had a QUADRUPLE matchpoint in the 5th. Then Brian got very careful, and Donald got a little impatient... he lost six points in a row.
