At least 20.  I think the official age is 20.

he's probably 24-29, you know how the chinese athletic department works, just think of 2008 olympics

why dont you ask the ITTF to ban him and gave back all his medals, IOC sure needs you for Rio 2016.smell like  a chinese hater

or a cheaters hater?

This is why I have ignored bbkon for a long time.  He seems more than eager to kiss CTTA a**.

I would completely expect Zhou Yu to be several years older than 20 if it is the official age given for him.  There have been several accounts of this practice being common within China, for table tennis and other sports.

I am not a fan of bbkon (or any poster), but I also do not agree with those who are determined to spread false information.  All newborns in China are counted as one-year old, not "zero" like in Western cultures.  Furthermore, with every passing Lunar Year it's a Chinese tradition to add one more year to the baby without actually waiting for his/her next true birthday to come up.  So a Chinese baby could well be only one month old, successfully passed his/her first Lunar Year celebration within a few weeks of birth, and be counted as a two-year old.  When these Chinese kids moved to the U.S., they are reminded to calculate their "American" age by subtracting at least one year from their Chinese age, sometimes two.  You make it sound as if most Chinese intentionally cheat the system by lying about their age, which is false.  Cheaters can be found in any country/culture... I detest all those who try to stereotype the Chinese with b.s. "facts" in this forum.

i think what bbkon was laughing at was the estimate of 24-29, not necessarily the suggestion that chinese athletes cheat ages

I'm not a stereotyper or anti-chinese whatsover, but the chinese age counting system has nothing to do with why they fake their ages. it's done to have better chances in lower age groups, plain and simple. i've had numerous imported coaches/players tell me about this (who i obviously will not name here). Now I'm not saying they ALL do this, or even that most do, but it is what it is.

I don't understand why are you singling out the Chinese?  This shady practice could be found in a number of Asian countries in all sports and school admission processes.  Some do it, some don't, the same as American high school athletes taking PEDs, as I have many personal encounters with those who freely admitted their high school coaches supplied them with the drugs.  The posters here make it sound as if most Chinese lie about their age.  Stereotyping is not cool.

The topic at hand was Chinese players in table tennis being known for cheating their age, so I limited my response accordingly. Nowhere did I say or imply all the chinese do it/only chinese do it/chinese are the only race who cheat in sports. There's no stereotypes here whatsoever.

No, the topic is Zhou Yu, not Chinese cheating about their age to gain competitive advantage in age groups.  Re-read the posts.  Liulin04 introduced the stereotyping, and other childish posters promptly joined in.

Topic as in the subject that was being discussed at the time in my post, not the thread title.

his backhand is like zhang jike's backhand but i think he don't have enough control on his forehand.
what is his equipment?
Balde : Donic Epox Control
Forehand : Donic BlueFire M1 (Black / MAX)
Backhand : Donic Vario Big Slam (Red / MAX)

Zhang Jike : Man Of Steel

Hi guys, 3 more videos of Zhou Yu for this thread (Thanks to Anton Chigurh! Thumbs Up)
In my humble opinion Z-Y plays excellent tt, and he has all the characteristics of a great player.

janus700: Thanks for all the awesome Zhou Yu stuff!

I think this kid is awesome and I hope he continues to improve.

There is something I really like about his playing style. The backhand, for sure, but I also relate to the skinny guy. LOL

A friend of mine said that Zhou Yu's play reminded him of a praying mantis. I think it's a great comparison. The mantis is a formidable predator... Evil Smile
