Hello there fellow members,

As some of you may know I was hunting for Firehand blade for a while. After many many weeks of searching I finally found person who seemed to be legit and wanted to sell the blade. He had no feedback thread but sold many blades in the past so my first thought was: why not?. There starts my problematic story. Based on the pictures, the Firehand was in really good shape so I decided to pay $170 USD (190~CAD after fees and stuff) for it . Blade by itself looked very good from the pictures but when it arrived whole handle was ripped apart from the actual head(?!). He claimed that it must have been customs fault and they ruined the blade(?!). I wanted it so bad, that I agreed that I can send it on his shipping expense to his personal repair guy who supposed to fix it. I went to the post office and sent the blade via regular airmail ( tracking number from Canada costs $63?!). In few past years I have sent around 50+ blades all over the world and never ever lost even one of them. After month (!?) of waiting the blade was still being undelivered and my patience was reaching the limit. Over a week ago I sent him a PM, then another one. He logged in and never replied to it and currently He has been off for around 6 days. Just to make it worse, I decided to purchase repaired firehand from him as well for $70+15$ for the shipping he owed me. I told him that I'd like to receive two blades at the same time. Unfortunately It looks like I won't see neither one of them. Payment was made via GIFT option, so I am most likely screwed.

Any suggestions? I know his personal details such as address, name. I also have his repair guy personal details. I don't want to mention everything because I am still hoping to hear from him and get the case positively solved.

Thanks.

Thank you for your reply. I have been talking about OLD Firehand off- blade. This one is OFF+ rated. These are two completely different blades.

I used to have some firehands, and I know a social player with one now,
I think they were a fairly fast /slightly heavy made in China blade witha squeezy handle

That's the blade I am talking about. Yes, there is duck tape on the handle to prevent falling it apart from the head. Crack was pretty nasty, never mentioned before sale.

Moral of the story is never use GIFT unless it's someone you know personally, and always dispute before 45 days if transaction not settled before then. Some unscrupulous people out there.

Also, don't be so kind to his "reputation", he doesn't seem like the type to return the favor anyway.

I had an IF ZLF broken in the USA Customs, so the moral is to use harder boxes and insurance. We decided to split the losses and the buyer kept the blade (for eventual repair).

I used a Firehand for most of my youth. imho you can measure it's thickness and buy either the OSP Expert or Virtuoso (whichever is closer to the firehands thickness) and you'll have just as good a blade. It was nothing more than a good -off 5 ply, they were made in Japan

my poor fellow Canadian...Ouch
The Jouney & the experences no matter how tough or easy along the way to get to the Destination is more important and enriching than the "Destination" itself.
I hope this experience taught you valuable lessions and hopefully you learnt/gained a lot, more than the money you "lost".
I personally would never ever shell out so much for any piece of Oldie like that no matter what it means to me or how good these oldies would bring back good old memories.
Any old gem acquired here would never be the same as/equal to the original, The orig. One.
Always always ask alotta Qs and demand to see alotta clear pics. & not be afraid that if you ever miss the chance to buy/acquire this or any gem. When the deal doesn't materialize in your favour or desire, hey, let it slip you by as there will always be another 1 next time.
Btw, that FireWood Hand really looks like a POS to me.
Yike!

I think if you have the address of the person - tell him he has 7 days to contact you or you will disclose his full information on the internet. Once posted on the net - there is no way to remove it.

Its not about how the blade plays, its just about the fact what happened. It can be just descent 5ply for everyone else, for me its best blade ever. Firehand suits me 100% that's why I'd like to have more of them just in case.

Just a quick update: Looks like the case will get resolved soon. Thank you for your input and advices!

Those old blades had more of a "handmade" quality which means more variation than most modern manufacturing process, and age treats them all differently, too. So it's hard to say that certain "feel" of any particular one you're trying to replicate is any more than psychological.

IMO, except for collecting, new hand-made blades from various blade-crafts are better for actual playing if you're going for that certain old-timey "sharp yet controlled" characteristic.

I bought a stiga alser for a lot of money when it arrived I found the head had been ground very roughly to fit in a small bat cover, the blade was half an inch smaller on one side than the other....

Moral of the story, just buy a new blade and play the age into it yourself.
