I really enjoy watching WQL play, and I'm not really big on defensive play-style in general (meaning it doesn't usually interest me that much to watch). Thanks for sharing.

PS: I just watched that first set against Nathan Hsu - dude, you played awesome in that set. Was that 11-1? Smile

+1 to your post
My own thought: the choppers will always seek acceptance of their technique/equipment...

Really don't want to respond to this coz I don't really care what other people think but - the choppers will always seek ...... winning...... just like any players.
Players who lose to choppers are either not good enough or play tactically wrong.......same thing with losing to loopers, lobbers or hitters.

To Pondus : to me, WQL's game is like magic, until 2700+ or Wang Zhen, he has so many ways to win points and all his weapons are all blend well. I never know what's coming until it's too late.
IMO - A combination of "fun to watch" players
1. tricky serves 2. Bazooka FH 3. can get balls back again and again. He has all.

Bogey:  Can you make all those videos clickable?

Sorry to learn that "The-best-1600-player's" rating has just dropped from 1600 to 1569.7.

You must have played an extremely cute girl, in the same league as Seo Hyowon, and your eyes were concentrating at "you-know-what" rather than the ball.

Yeah, I saw him play last year at the US Open, where he made it pretty far (I want to say Quarter or Semi final). Incredibly talented and does also come across as a very nice and humble guy. Besides his canon of a forehand I've seen blast some nice backhand loops as well from time to time... makes me wonder why he decided to play defensive style with long pips to begin with (not that EVERYONE gets long pips to cover up a weakness, I know...).
I guess I'm also curious about that regarding you, Bogey - how come you decided to play defensive/long pips?

Yes, much better than the usual videos that get posted here.  These videos raise the standard.
It isn't so much the higher level of play it is the interesting rallies.
Also you do a good job of positioning the camera and record at HD.
I have usually watched all the videos just after you post them.  They are MUCH better than reruns on TV.

ooops, sorry.  Comparing to reruns wasn't good.

Many thanks to fatt.

Bogey got very good attitude/expression whether he won or lost a point, whether he won or lost a match. that provides a very good role model for the young beginners.  I would love to send my grand-children to take lessons from him.  Darn, he lives too far from us.

I noticed overtime you made it your signature shot: patience, patience and... BAM!!! FH killer along the line.
not sure we could find a better rally to illustrate the essence of the modern defender's game.
It has bh and fh chops, a fh semi lob with side spin, multiple step in moves followed by step out ones and the final killer. Clap

question: I called this a 'semi lob with side spin' just because I could not say it better; is there a term or expression for that shot?
is that a good description enough? --> it is done under the pressure of incoming speed because chopper does not have enough time to step back for a fh chop; it's like he starts getting ready for a fh chop but ends up doing that because the ball is already there.

Joe. If you don't mind, can you make some comments about your match against Nathan. What were the tactics you used. What adjustment he did. How did you counter that. What would you do different?

Thanks.

To Pondus : how come you decided to play defensive/long pips?
In short : Love it.
A bit longer answer : It fits my personality.
A long answer :
7 yrs ago I started playing TT again after 13-14 yrs break. 2 older guys(one is now a coach in FL) at club were choppers and I never seen chopper before in my life(I didn't know Joo se Hyuk) and I just fell in love with the way they played. I was rated 1900+ and they would beat me 3-0 every single time. I began studied how to to beat them and that's first time I learn what LP was. Then borrow their paddle to play for a few time. Until NA team 2006, had minor back injury and saw Kaz(a chopper in NY) played, I switched mid tournament....bought Stiga Destroyer there and used it until now. Never had any intention to go back to inverted in these 7 years. I just love it.

Fatt : Thanks

Skip : summer camp 2014? :)

Bonggoy : How about you tell me what you see/think first then I'll tell you?

That's awesome. Seeing how your game is today, I don't see any reason why you'd switch to inverted either. Smile
