All wood or composite?  Name your blade.

I have tried many penhold blades but nothing beats Nitchugo Super/Senkoh 5.
Blade has to be thick and heavy. Carbon blades have good control when you attack but blocking is not that easy and you cannot vary the pace.
The old DHS blades 08/032 are very good as well but you must have strong arms since their weight is around 120 g.
The only downside of Nitchugo is that it is shorter which means that the contact point with the ball is closer to your hand. Butterfly Hinoki Pen Neutrino is the closest one to Nitchugo Super but with longer head (160x140 mm.). However, it was discontinued by BTY and is nearly impossible to get one.

Generally allwood blades are better for backhands.  Forehands are usually strong enough so it won't make too much of a difference with the extra bit of power.  Being balanced is pretty important... Xu Xin is working on that now apparently... his backhand is getting better.  I would say all wood wouldnt be too bad... try Intensity, Rosewood maybe? ^___^

Oh good, I have someone who is interested in buying a blade to use short pips with, so do you recommend something that has more control, especially for starters?

How fast is the Rosewood?  How is the control?  I've seen a few penholders play with it.

Senkoh 5 is a blade that can be used at all levels.  Smashing opponent's loops is very easy with this blade.  Blocking is very solid and you can do both chop blocks and punch blocks with ease.

XX is the new king so Stiga should release a blade with his signature just like what DHS and Butterfly is doing.

Indeed, they should re-introduce their own old practice of naming the blades after the prominent players using it.

I love 5-ply all wood (my YEO) for looping, and I love carbon (my IZLC) for short pips hitting and blocking.

For Cpen looping, I prefer OFF/OFF- blades, without carbon, but some other composite can be used like Zylon (aka Zephilium) or fibreglass. Burnt wood centre plies (like Peterpan) or hard outer weeners like YEO and RW are also good for me.

For Cpen hitting, a 7 ply woods like P700, Illusion Killer, PG7 are my favourites.

For JPen with smooth rubber - 1-ply Kiso Hinoki, 9.5-10.5 mm thick. It's also good for SP hitting, but it's really a matter of taste...

As for smooth rubbers - Chinese sticky FH (H3/TG2/999/Tau/VC), E/J BH for Cpen and E/J FH for single rubber setup.
