I am currently using Baracuda max on my FH and I am pretty happy with it, but it's time to replace it soon. I will be honest, I am an EJ at heart and like trying different equipment, so I am leaning towards Adidas P7 after reading about it on here and TTDB.com. I would also be open to other suggestions if you can think something might serve me better. Here is what I like/dislike about Baracuda

1. I love the circus-like loops of the Baracuda, so something spinny and higher throwing is preferred, although I would be ok with slightly lower throw than Baracuda, just not much lower.

2. The speed of Baracuda is comfortable for me, wouldn't want anything too much faster

3. Something less sensitive to incoming spin would be a bonus, but I understand this probably contradicts #1, so as long as it isn't more sensitive, I can deal with it

4. The weight of Baracuda is fine, but wouldn't want anything much heavier

So should I stick with Baracuda? Give P7 a try? Or is there something else I should consider? Any advice would be appreciated.

Baracuda is spinnier on slower loops. P7 is faster and spinnier on stronger shots

Hi Cochese,I am also a big fan of Baracuda.
Would you consider to try Rasant Grip /Tibhar Genius/P7

It will be hard to found a spinnier rubber ...

The only thing for me that baracuda lack is the Parabolla of the ball.

But for players who dont go more than close-mid distance should be fine...

P.S I boost!

I am a close-mid distance player. Probably why Baracuda has worked well for me.

I have looked at Rasant Grip, but the lower throw turned me off right away.

Also looked at Genius Sound and Rakza 7 soft to try something with a softer sponge. But with those being more expensive than Baracuda, I would probably try P7 first for the same money.

I was a big fan of baracuda and baracuda bs too, IMHO you should consider to try xiom vega pro the same high throw as baracuda but the topsheet is softer and much less sensitive to incoming spin. Bonus better durability. Good luck.

I have the same problem as you had... Baracuda replacement. I see you already have Adidas P7, I know they are very similar rubbers, but can you compare their hardness?

Also I'd appreciate if somebody could compare the hardness of Baracuda and Bluefire M2/M3, thanks.

I really should test Vega Pro and review it.

Vega Japan shrunk too much in the hands of everyone I know who tried it. But maybe it was a rubber cement thing. The rubber was otherwise good.

The only rubbers that ever shrunk for me were Vega Japan and mx-p. Mx-p shrinks just a tiny tiny bit, not easily noticeable ( I let my sheets air a little while which solves it) ,whereas the one VJ I had shrunk like almost 2mm .tbh VJ kinda feels like a weaker, more linear, lower throw and softer mx-p. Tried Vega pro a bit, felt Good, not that powerful and spinny in the higher gears for a strong player as t05, evo etc., But it felt like a fun to use do it all rubber to me :)

Donic Bluefire was my first experience with shrinkage and shrinkage in general got me off rubber cement. Right now, I am happy with the non-bio boosted non-Tenergy options out there. And I can always go back to Tenergy as well.

I started using glue sheets recently- impressed so far with how easy to use and the nice lay down of the rubber. Using the Nittaku Nori Plus but it was not recommended for inverted but I tried it anyway and it works fine.  Not sure about the VOC issues with Glue sheets.

My Vega Pros had quite hard topsheet... hard to control rubber, really.

8 new replies, none to my question, OK.

I used Vega Asia, but that's just sh*t rubber. Spin is nothing special (much less than Baracuda), it's not very fast, but it's just too soft! Like the softest Donic rubbers. So I don't understand your hype about Vega series.. Maybe the Pro version is better, but I still don't think it could compare to the top tensors and Tenergy.

Baracuda is a good substitute for P7. It is a bit slower while hitting through the sponge but the topsheet has same grip. It is also a little heavier.
