See the guy in blue's serves in this video:

What was the logic for those high serves?  Why was the other guy having trouble putting them away?

this has been discussed before with the player in black in the discussion…
Pushblocker plays almost exclusively with his lp BH and long pip is is very hard to smash with! But i would think the tactic worked mainly because of the surprise factor like a eephus pitch. Pushblocker is a high level player I doubt any regular player can easily take a game of him with or without this tactic!

Agree with you that this video has been discussed, in great length, before.

The OP probably doesn't know that Pushblocker (black shirt) is a high level player (USATT, 2175) and one time went above 2300.

If you are under 2000, say 1900+, you have no chance to beat that player wearing black shirt (Pushblocker).

you're absolutely right that I didn't know about this being discussed at length before.  Now if you can just tell me where that thread is (or how to find it), then your reply would have been of value.

For people who don't recognize the player in blue its Cory Eider (Current rating is over 2500). He had just started playing again after not playing for almost 6 years at the time of this tournament. Cory was obviously not playing seriously and he still won 3-0.

This isn't about playing against junk rubber.   It is more about Corey Eider thinking outside the box and exploiting a weakness that became obvious during the match.  I don't see why a smart but weaker player couldn't exploit the same weakness.

No, more like the D.tecs or similar which pushblocker uses is hard to smash with. It's very effective for what he does but also very touchy at the table for anything except pushing and passive blocking.

A stronger player has stronger quality of shots/motion, and this includes control over simple blocks. A weaker player will have poor position against any return and likely misjudge them anyway.

I've seen some push blockers but they all are able to attack with their forehand a good push blocker would have turned around and smashed the ball but still very well played

Thanks much!  I'm just on page 1 of that thread and feel that I learned alot already (at least in theory).  I also just subscribed to Olivier's YT channel, because of this.

A 2275 player just tried the same thing against me last weekend at a tournament and I beat him... I learned to attack since Cory Eider came up with that strategy..  I did some changes to my game which caused me to drop in rating but I'm on the way back up. I slowly made it back to about 2200.. (2199 right now).. Never dropped below 2100 in the process..

pingponger:  you need to examine yourself first.
Just look at your reply to me:
"you're absolutely right that I didn't know about this being discussed at length before.  Now if you can just tell me where that thread is (or how to find it), then your reply would have been of value."
=======================================================

Do you see anything wrong with your "wording"?  Probably not.
(Very difficult. Because you have to put you in my shoes to examine that phrase.)
(With a different kind of phrase, I would have gone an extra mile for you.)

That's why I didn't even bother to spend time to search it for you.
(Someone else later did it for you.)

Pushblocker has fantastic ball control with his LP. If he can incorporate "advanced LP technique/strokes", he can should able to advance his rating easily to the next level. To handle those little or no spin high ball, just twiddle the blade to inverted rubber and drive/smash it, regardless BH or FH.

Over here, children in junior schools are train to use LP. Very effective against those weak in heavy top spin drive.

twiddling is great if you have time for a shot but it can cause mistakes if you try to do it too quickly.. Once in a while i twiddle to smash with my backhand but not too often.

Right now, I doubt that I will go up in rating in the near future due to the change in balls. My game is less effective with the plastic ball. I'm at 2199 right now but the last tournament I just played was with the old ball..
BTW, if you see me at a tournament, I don't look anything like in the video.. lost over 70 lbs...

I have to work harder for my points with the new ball. Less mistakes by the opponents. However, my attacking game works pretty good with the new ball. Once I get that one going better, I might stay at the same level..
