Hello MTTN members,

Looking to buy a new TT table and was wondering if any of you good members have ever bought one off of Craigslist. I have a TT table now but was thinking about getting a better one.

There are some really nice TT tables on Craigslist that are going for pretty cheap. I'm talking Stiga, Butterfly, Donic and other name brand tables. Not just something someone could buy at the local sporting goods store or Walmart. Well maybe you could buy a Stiga from a sporting goods store, but you know what I mean.

Anyway, anyone ever bought a TT table off Craigslist before. I know I would need to go look at it and make sure that it worked properly. No scratches ect. But is there a down side to buying a slightly used TT table off Craigslist?

Let me know,

Thanks

I would say if it's in good condition, there should be no problems. A local TT club - sold some of their old high end tables on Craigslist.

I bought my first table on Craigslist and got two years of frequent use from it with no problems.  When I bought a nicer table I sold that one on Craigslist, and somebody is still using it.

The only downsides I can think of vs buying one new/used from a dealer
- you have to arrange delivery yourself
- no warranty so you're on your own for any damage or missing parts

I guess if it's a high end table and you're savings hundreds, it might be worth the risk.

I vote for buying from the craigslist.
You should not have many troubles for an used table since
it is not like a used car or a machine.

Right.  If you have been playing for a while and are moderately familiar with tables, you should be able to evaluate it pretty easily.  Just make sure you can see it set up and if it is a folder, that you operate the mechanism and verify that the wheels work, etc.  As always, look for at least a 3/4" thick and 1" if possible.  That's both for playability and longevity.

Our club sells our old tables for $300-$400 each when we replace them.  So you might check with any local clubs as well.

How much are you looking to spend?  If you don't happen to find what you want on CL I could suggest some options.

Look under the top and check for rust
Lot of people tend not to look under the table. Its like buyinga car. Gotta look under the hood. Also, ask the owner if you can fold it during your visit to look at it. A lot of old tables have kinks when you fold them. Good luck
