I bought a DHS 032 blade with Yasaka Phantom 008 long pips with 1.1mm sponge (I think). But the long pips effect seems to be minimal. I don't really see reversal of spin.
First of all, what stroke creates the most spin-reversal effect, and what are some ways to increase that effect? eg. Thicker/thinner sponge? Faster/slower blade? Thanks. |

The thinner the sponge the better spin reversal and other long pips effect. Blades with harder outer layers tend to maximise the long pips effects. I think this rubber does not produce that much spin reversal on blocks and chop close to the table, but good reversal when chopping against loops away from the table.

So if my opponent loops the ball, and I chop it, will it return as topspin? Is that what long pips is supposed to do?

Well not all long pimple rubber are the same, but if you chop against a topspin loop, you will return chop. The amount of chop depends on how much topspin is on the loop, what long pimpled rubber you use, and on your chopping action. If you block it close to the table, some LP rubber will take the spin off (producing a no-spin ball), and some will produce heavy chop. From what I know of your rubber, it's more likely to produce a no-spin or low-spin ball. There are many differnet type of long pimpeld rubbers out there, all with different effects. Some are better fro some styles, some for other styles. |

The moderators should make several sticky FAQ threads. It's annoying that people ask the same questions over and over again.
Here are some suggestions: What are LP? How to play against LP? How to play against Antitop? How to play against defensive players, blockers etc.? What are the different ways to speed glue your rubber? What is speed glue effect in general? How to return serves? Can you make a topspin with short pips? Which equipment does player XY use? Which is the fastest blade? and my all time favourite: Which is the best equipment? etc. pp. |
