Does anyone have any experience of taking the train from Beijing to Shijiazhuang?

Hi,

So I spent 15 days there. Had a great time and would recommend it highly.

1. Travel.
Flew into Beijing and got the train to Shijiazhuang. Nice, fast, modern train. Not expensive; about 30USD.

2. Accommodation.
Was in the west wing. Room was great. Internet worked well (used a VPN to access the wider internet). Washer on balcony. Quiet. Clean. Daily cleaning. En suite. Card key. Fridge in room. Electric shower.

3. Food.
Buffet breakfast just downstairs. Breakfast wasn't the best, but the food was great otherwise. All you can eat. There WILL be something for everyone.

4. Facilities.
Gym is nice. 4 training halls; the women's training hall is the coolest, with all the memorabilia. Men's training hall was enormous with nice grippy flooring, lots of space.

5. Training.
2 or 3 training sessions per day, depending on the time of year. It was afternoon and evening when I was there. It was tough physically for the first few days. I was really getting into it at the end of the two weeks; would recommend a month, if possible. They have an English speaking coach who circulates and helps out. Invaluable to me as an intermediate player. Usually once session per day is dedicated to multiball, and the other dedicated to single balls drills.

6. Town + Local Area.

A shopping centre about 10 minutes’ walk away; can get anything you want there. A tt shop about 2 minutes away. Local people don't pay much attention to foreigners; neither friendly nor hostile. I didn’t go far from the training centre, but it was a peaceful area and I had a nice walk every day.

 

7. Cost.

60USD per day for accommodation, 6 hours training, and 3 meals. A bargain.

$60USD a day? That's it?!!! ... that's so cheap!! wow.

Totally worth it if I only had the time ...

I'm not a high level player; been playing approx 3.5 years. Where I'm living, there's no rating system, but from videos I've seen online, I would say I'm about 1800 or 1900 (on a good day). Training involved being partnered up with someone, and doing single or multiball drills. Each session lasted about 3 hours; usually two sessions per day with lunch and dinner in between.

There were many types of drills, mostly for improving footwork, as well and shot combinations e.g. backhand flick then forehand loop, or backhand short push then loop against backspin from the backhand side.

It was pretty gruelling at first. The level of skill there was unbelieveable; many players have been there for months and years and were superb players. I was, almost certainly, the lowest skilled player there. But at the end of my time there, I had definitely improved.

Here are some videos I took while I was. I don't have any videos of the multiball training. Watch out for the videos at the bottom. The head coach of the whole facility invited me to go to a local school with which he had some ties to help train young kids. They were so young, but their skills were great. I found out that this school is where Wang Liqin went when he was a kid (at least I think so). Cool, eh?

Thanks for the pics.  I went there for a month in 2010 and enjoyed my time there.  Better to go with group and understand some of the language.  The training was good.  On reflection I should have gotten the lower individual training.  Play around 1600, and trained with the kids.  Book directly through the center, not cntttc.  The PR junior team was there for a couple of weeks while I went, great attitude.  Many kids didn't want themselves in video.  Link below.

Do you speak any chinese?
They look pretty good, but maybe they would leave you aside a bit.
Being a foreigner, the worst player and not speaking their language.
Also it seems as if they are all kids except for the guy who comes from US.
Doesn't that feel awkward?
