For what it's worth I found the 05fx easier to loop backspin on my forehand, where the 05 was just too fast for me on all other shots.

I don't believe he uses it anymore but he did use it (successfully) in competition.

I don't know if they boost Japanese rubbers (much), but IMHO, I don't think Tenergy takes well to boosting.

At least, a few years ago, when a coach in China kindly tried to boost my dying Tenergy 05-FX so I could get a few more days of training out of it, it felt so mushy, I didn't like the effect at all. Played nothing like a freshly-glued brand-new sheet.

its funny when you take things out of context.
I had said The FX commercial version is for developing players

the professional tenergies have nothing to do with the commercial (fx, and regular).

@NextLevel the Chinese guy is pretty good.

The kid won the first game .11-9. Then the Chinese guy brought out his A game. It would be a good guess the rating exercise because the kid has been playing at a roughly 2300 level since October. So the kid is no beginner.

You should try T80. For me it feels like a more linear T05 and the loop doesn't have that crazy bounce on contact

Lol so many tenergy police.

The players I play with ternergy fx, usually struggle to get past 5 or 6 points. Im not a good player, may be okay at best. Hence I consider them beginners . Not that there is anything wrong with being a beginner.
I guess some people took it as an offence towards their level of play. Understand that its an opinion only. You can certainly disagree with it.

Anyways the Indian kid, his posture makes me hard to believe that he is 2300.

So you saw him block and counter the loops of a 2600+ player under match conditions and all you can see is his posture? You sound like the guy who thought Adrian Crisan was 1900.

In any case, he uses Tenergy 05 FX and he clearly isn't sponsored and his backhand is one of his biggest strengths.

Other than boost, most pros are using the same Tenergy that we are.

Not sure what your point is since I have pointed out a few out of many 2000+ players (and AFAIK, you aren't 2000) who use 05fx. That you beat players who use a certain rubber clearly proves little so I am beginning to wonder about your judgement. So you seriously think that giving a player a rubberwill transform his game? You sound like another poster here who likes to say that he needs hard sponged rubber or his stroke will not work. He should really just say he doesn't know how to loop.

Actually the tenergies that pros (esp. men) use have harder sponges. But that won't affect us lol
That indian kid is obviously talented, but lacks proper posture. While I agree with you, NextLevel, that bad posture doesn't necessarily mean you can't play well, bad posture will definitely hinder improvement.

So beginner players struggle to beat you, and that must be because of their rubber choice? Clap

Yes, we have had this discussion elsewhere in the past and all I will say his playing style and posture are not that different from this guy:

Since I doubt his goal is to become World Champion, my guess is that he will enjoy his time in the sport and move on to other more lucrative things while keeping this as a hobby.  He doesn't play or train everyday, so I think the way he plays actually makes his attitude sustainable.

Many pros who use Tenergy are not sponsored.  So you mean that they have access to what their sponsored friends use or they will not use Tenergy at all?  Or that Butterfly sponsors pros with enough stuff to share with their friends and family?

At some point, we have to stop making everything about this idea that pros have access to the secret handshake stuff that we don't.  Yes, pros generally want harder sponges relative to what amateurs want.  But even pros don't get everything they want.

If there's one thing I know about this forum, that point will never come. It's still mind-boggling to me how developing players make their equipment decisions in the context of professional players, and can actually believe that a certain rubber is too soft or whatever for them despite numerous relatively high level players (2200-2600) using rubbers like 64, 05FX just fine. If anything, those are the players one should use as a basis, not the guys whose equipment-related demands we'll never be able to remotely fathom.

Many/most of them don't have coaches and even those that do don't always have the coaches influencing their decisions.

I was referring to the CNT players as "pros." Yes, obviously not all sponsored players get these harder sponged tenergies. But there are indeed Tenergies that the public can't buy. Believe it if you want. I'm not gonna waste my time trying to convince anybody on this forum. Too many skeptics.

It's less about skepticism and more about it not making the difference that you think it does. If you understand that, let me know.

Let me put it another way and maybe it will be clearer. People who are competitive and detail oriented tend to leave little to chance. So they will try to make sure that they are ready to compete 100%. They will make sure their rubbers are suited to their strokes.

Does this mean that if we had access to the rubbers these pros have that we could use them as well as the pros did? I am sure Ma Long could use my set up better than I can myself. Since you know that table tennis is not the kind of sport where faster equipment is necessarily better, the obsession with what the pros use needs to be measured, and a better barometer is what generally serious players all over the world (usatt 2200+) use and you will see equipment like Tibhar Genius and Donic Baracuda in there.

There is an argument for what the pros use being higher quality but it has to be carefully made, and it should be made so seriously that it begins to sound like the Tenergy pros use bears absolutely no resemblance to what people buy.

Pro players can get equipment customized to suit them better. Thus I don't understand your desire to have the access to equipment inadequate to your skills.
Life is too short for defensive play.

I will chime in here to say: this is my least favorite thing about table tennis. Professional players should use the same equipment amateurs do (or at least both should have access to the exact same equipment) - no question.

How can I not understand that? When you go to a Super League match and watch Ma Long blow away ball after ball with that kind of quality, and see how amazing his power transfer is, you know that equipment isn't what separates you from him. The tenergy rubbers that they use just have harder sponges because they have generate more power. That's it.

There are collective minded people for old jordans, just like theyre are for old blades. But no one buys old rubbers LOL

His point was that having Air Jordans won't make you better at basketball, not that you shouldn't wear them as a fashion choice if you aren't good at basketball. The reading comprehension in this thread is really leaving something to be desired.
