Is it possible to repair the splinters on this blade? I got it with rubbers but even if I was very careful removing the rubbers it still splintered possibly because of the strong glue that was used.
Would it be possible to glue the splinters back to the blade? Which glue to use? Elmers wood glue? Please see pictures of the blade below and the rubber with the splinters still attached to it. |

I have put back larger splinters using wood glue. However it still left some void areas. I then used some wood filler to fill in the smaller remaining voids using a putty knife to get it as flat as possible then sanded lightly. Seemed to work ok for me, but then again I do not seem to feel a lot of differences between blades regardless. Mark

I always use wood filler to fill any damaged parts or splinters. The main purpose is to prevent any more splinters in that part due to rubber changing. I prevent any undamaged parts that i dont want to be effected by wood filler by using tape before i apply it. And as the result you get pretty beautiful face without extra filler effecting undamaged area. Lately i using wood filler also to fill around neck of one ply blades. Picture below show the one i repaired at the end of the blade, but it is pretty same at any part of the blade. |

So does this mean it's not recommended to stick back the splinters to the blade and just use wood filler?

Pretty same i think either way. I just prefer to fill it all with wood filler only. Seems easier to apply with than sticking back the splinters. Also if you applying it for the first time i recommend you to use any cheap premade useless blade first before applying it to your main blade. Try apply several times until you pretty satisfy with it.

I think it only makes sense to reglue the splinters if they are more like chunks rather than splinters. Even then it is not necessary to do so and you can use filler only. Another situation for glueing the splinters is when the missing piece is right at the edge of the racket. It is a little harder to level out the filler when it can ooze out the side of the crack. Glueing back in the very edge piece of a splintered area first can help hold the filler in place as you use it to level out the blade face. Even with this said, I have repaired a couple of pretty bad chunk out of edge type repairs with wood filler only. So take your choice. By the way, it is a great idea to practice on a cheap blade first as there is a little bit of technique to getting it right. Mark

Thanks again for suggestions. Forgot to ask, what type of glue to use when gluing back splinters? Elmers wood glue?
I have this at home:

That is the glue I used. Can not remember which wood filler I used. Think it was a Minwax one. By the way, I have never been able to save the filler I did not use as it always seemed to dry out in the tube. So buy the smaller tube or maybe go with a can that can be resealed better. Mark
