i just bought a sheet of h3 national... and... i am so paranoid of wearing out the rubber too quickly! lol. its kind of sad... but yeah. any suggestions on 'proper' rubber care? im currently using a foam cleaner from bty (rushawa) and sponge. when i am not using it i put a plastic sheet on it. i clean the rubber after every session of play.

that's perfect.

I clean it first with a damped Ocello and then use the BTY stuff.  The Rushawa is great unlike the sprays or combo cleaners.  Foam is the way to go.

If you speed glue, , And if you go long periods of time not using your blade.  Remove the rubbers until you know you will use them.  It will save some wear and tear on them.

dont use any of that foam stuff on any chinese rubbers or rubbers in general.  those things contain alcohol that dries up the rubber.  takes away the tackiness of chines rubbers.  also use a protective film thats not sticky.  use water and a clean sponge to clean

omg. the amount of alcholo in the foam is so minial it is not going to dry it out. its very the oppisite. ther are conditioning agents in the foam the help retain mosture so it doesnt get dried out.

but you are right that it can take away some tackiness with repeated use. I use just a little after each use and then after about 5 or 6 times I'll use just water and itll remove the conditioning agent build up (the very minimal amount thats on there, but still can slightly detract from the tackiness)

I think the foam and the water in moderation is the best.

On some rubbers it does effect the surface more.  On my H3 commercial not too much problems with the Rushawa.  I've been using it over a year on the same H3 with no problems.

I get problems only if I leave it very moist either water or foam and it leaves amoeba looking spots when I place a protective sheet.  But only on certain rubbers.  I've had more problems with the alcohol content of Sprays and Combo cleaners.

I started out using some of Stigas foam, but found that my rubbers dropped in performance. After consulting our trainer and my supplier I now stick to medium tempered water and a soft sponge to clean my rubbers. Also I remove them from the blade after every practise. Store them in a plastic sheet and avoid to expose them to sunlight. Thats what I do and i seems to work fine.

I use JOOLA SPIN MAX only once during the game. After that I cover the rubber with a sticky plastic fm BTY. I do not see a particular problem for my rubber, on the contrary....

its so funky when those amoeba things start forming. i think its from the protective sheet sticking to the rubber... i guess it keeps the dust off?

I always tell my friends not to waste money on those cleaners. Just buy a 99cent sponge, wet it water and wipe the rubber. Doesn't get better than that.

My JOOLA SPIN MAX is lasting since almost 1 year and I still have for at least another 3/4 months. It keeps my rubbers sticky (I only use before the game). So you do not spend a fortune, I used before only water but I must say that is not the same result !

For some reason, I used to use the butterfly alcohol sprays on my rubber sheet for a year now. The top sheet is still tacky and there's no indication of drying out. Nor is it cracking, am I doing something right or wrong? I started using water now though, but seems like my rubber is getting more damage from impacting on the table more than the alcohol sprays.

I find that water works just fine for chinese rubbers.  As Sean says just make sure to let the surface dry before putting on your protective sheet and you will be fine.  If the place I am playing is dusty I use a damp sponge to clean after every match.

I agree water is best. Unless you have some sweat got on the rubber.

I have bad experiences with chemically treated tap water, and distilled water.

In my opinion the best is bottle drinking water with a little bit of non alcohol spray mix in before applying on the rubber. Let dry and then apply protection film .

To get it 100% correct, a test lab. must be setup.

Opinion of most good player on this issue is not important. They don't know, and most they don't care. Rubber company gives them all the free rubbers that they needed.

Distilled water is not treated with any chemicals. That means it shouldn't be a problem. I just use my regular tap water. What did tap water do to your sheet?
