    Posted: 03/23/2016 at 11:30am
I'm looking for videos with coaches teaching absolute (or very close to absolute) beginners. I'm not talking about instructional videos where they have a bunch of kids pretend to be beginners to demonstrate the shot.

I'm looking for videos like this, but preferable longer. A whole lesson or at least a more than a minute would be ideal!

Within a few months a new batch of students will join the table tennis club at my school. Me being the only one with playing experience, I want to give them as much of a chance to grow as I can. I already screwed up the current bunch due to my lack of experience (though they're better off than if I wasn't there).

Ideas, experiences, advice for teaching absolute beginners also welcomed. If you have any other resources too, please feel free to post them. I've seen and am reading the ITTF Level 1 Coaching handbook (though I don't think the way it's structured would apply very well to my situation).

Any help GREATLY appreciated.

A little info about the coach on the video.

His name is Li Ping Wang. He was the former coach of Wang Tao. His daughter also represented Canada in the 2000 Summer Olympics.

Thanks FdT. That's definitely an impressive resume!

Maybe he has more videos which I can learn from :)

There was  one, German I think, that had real beginner stuff working off table.  Ball bouncing drills, hitting shots while sitting on the floor (floor becomes table equivalent),  and more.  I tried to google it but got too many other things so I did not find it.

Maybe someone else will remember it.  There was more stuff on the table later that probably was beginner enough for your group.

Found this one.  Not the one I was thinking of, but some good stuff.  Slow multi-ball, hands on guiding of the strokes, targets on the table, etc.

Perhaps Andrew Rushtons short series is what you're looking for? They are quite good and I wish he did more of these....

Hey thanks, Mark. Great video. Exactly like what I'm after :)

Thanks Fdt. I haven't seen those videos in awhile now! They mean so much more to me than when I previously watched them. I think they might be a little above the level I'm after, but nonetheless, thank you!

Also, if anyone is able to find videos from other countries (non English/Japanese), that would be greatly appreciated, too. I wish my Chinese was better, or that I could speak Korean to search for them, but I can't!

Look at the youtube channel called pingskills. The coaches are ex australian national players and IMO their instructional video is very good and they show an absolutely tidy play style demonstration

Man, was it hard to find coaching videos of absolute beginners!

Below is one from Hong Kong.

Viscaria FL - 91g
+ Neo H3 2.15 Blk - 44.5g(55.3g uncut bare)
+ Hexer HD 2.1 Red - 49.3g(68.5g 〃 〃)
= 184.8g

Thanks balldance for the information!

@rickywinataa I'm actually a premium member at pingskills :) I agree they have a lot of great instructional videos, and I watch them all the time, but I'm more after videos of coaches in the process of teaching beginners how to play.

@zeio. That's exactly the type of video I'm after. And it's longer than a minute, too! Thanks a bunch for looking :)
