Hi. I got a new Viscaria a couple of weeks ago. The blade is great, but I have big hands that get a bit sweaty when I forget to wipe it out with a towel so I'm thinking about putting an overgrip on this blade. Do you guys have experience doing this on Viscaria? How it impacts the balance and the general weight of the blade? Is tourna grip a good option or should I go with a TT specific overgrip? Thank you in advance. |

I use a Viscaria with grip tape for similar reasons to you (plus mine is old and the handle is worn, so it's extra slippery). It certainly sorts out the grip issues, and improves the balance of the blade for me (I use heavy rubbers). However, it further dampens the feedback on a blade that's already lacking in feedback. If you're fine with that, I'm sure you won't have problems with the grip tape.
I'd recommend a thin grip tape. I've tried a thick one, and it didn't work as well on the Viscaria it does on thinner handles (stiga master handle for example), though I imagine if you have really huge hands you may like that. I use the tibhar one they sell on tt11. It's thin and good quality. I don't have an experience with the grip tape you mentioned.

The regular blue tournagrip is great and can be wrapped thick or thin. Will not get slippery even in lot's of sweat.

Thanks guys!
I was afraid it could ruin the balance of the blade, if it's not the case I think some overgrip will help me a lot.

I use Nittaku grip for that reason. First i bought for the main blade - TBS and after i tried it i bought for every other blade i have . When i try someone's setup without grip ... no way to like it. Really wonder why people play without it. It's personal probably connected with sweating but i still wonder.

I also tested several grid tapes when I tested some FL blades, because nearly all FL blades (without Nittaku Tenor) are too small in the middle for my hands.
This tape is definitely the best I ever tested: In such a package you will find 20 stripes x 25 cm. I know: it`s not produced to be a table-tennis-grip-tape but it is wonderful to use, because it can be stretched in all directions as much as you want. You don`t need to fix it in any way, and you can use the stripes 2-3 times. On the top the feeling is excellent and the price is crazy cheap compared to Butterfly grip tape.

Magic M,
How are those in terms of moisture? Do they stick well even if your hands are soaked with sweat? |

You only need to put the grip tape in the middle of the handle to solve the OP's original issue. You don't need to wrap the whole thing.

Up to now I don`t have any problems. This tape is made for sports-activities. But of course we are all different. For example I don`t have big sweat problems generally. |

I think I should use a regular grip tape to make it thicker since the sweat alone don't cause me problems with another blade. The way you wrap it may work fine for me, this is the only part of the handle where I feel I need to fill the space.

Done. It's a Tourna Grip, something I have easy access and previous experience on tennis rackets. The overgrip added 4mm in diameter and just 2g. I was about to apply it just in the middle session of the handle like Magic_M, but the grip is not self adhesive and the plastic tape to fix it didn't feel right in the palm of my hand. Wilson makes a black plastic grip that kind of adheres to itself so you can just wrap in revolution around the middle of the racket and it stays put.

Not easy to play with this for he first half hour. I got the same feeling I get when the rubber is not proper glued. After a while I got used and by the time we started playing matches I had the same results without any undesirable slippage. I just had to take care of my services since the first ones were higher than usual (I don't know why).

I think if you put too much stuff around the grip the feeling is lost. I eventually weened myself off all grip wraps.
