Guys, any feedback on this blade?

The specifications, multiply but ALL hinoki and 70 - 80 grams at 6.5mm thickness, sound promising.

Is the picture of the blade on IruIru correct? The handle of the blade in the pic looks like a shakehand handle, too long to be a C-pen:

I've got one in FL handle. 75g, feels good, not that quick for normal play.

One more thought: How differently does multi-ply hinoki play comparing to single-ply hinoki?

Yes, that picture is incorrect. Here is the correct one.

I have 7P2ACHN Carbon, which I have used occasionally, so I cannot (yet) tell my complete opinion, but the blade is not fast, and it has a soft feeling like arylate carbon, and my Darker Speed 90 (9mm) or Cypress has a harder feeling. I tried the blade with F1, but I found it too slow so now I am using Bryce FX 2,1.
One thing that makes me feel strange about Darker quality on my blade : the wood grain is not parallel to the handle, so visually it seems that the handle is not at the correct angle. Considering Darker's good quality, I think this should not happen. This would not affect performance, but visually it does not look nice.
On the other post, I told you that this carbon ply gives much less smudges compared to Butterfly's Arylate Carbon when you shave it.
I assume 7P2A would be even slower than 7P2A Carbon.
My conclusion for the moment : Borko is much better, then Speed 90 comes next.
Knowing the 7P2A Carbon, I would not buy the 7P2A,but I could be wrong. There is someone in this forum using this 7P2A, but I forgot the name, maybe he can share his experience.
You are not interested in Violin ? I just ordered one having a weight of 72 grams.

My 792a CHP is 70 grams exactly and is too light unless you RPB and use heavier rubbers.  Using 2 light rubbers would make the setup too slow.   It tried Skyline 2 and 3 on it and it felt just right.  Skylines are as heavy as H3 so heavy rubbers and light blade made my setup almost average to what I am used to.

Handle is the very comfortable.  It is a CHP handle made my CHP users.  By that I mean, it is NOT a Shakehand blade that has just been cut in half.

Great feel.  Just enough feedback/vibration.

SDRamones, do you mean 7P2A ? I tried to put Mark V on the BH side (Bryce FX on FH), but I did not feel the speed increase, and the weight hampered my movement, so I took it off. The weight of my blade (7P2A Carbon CHN is 80 grams).
I like light blades, my Borko is 73 grams and it is very nice. My coming light blade is Violin J-pen RH.

yeah typo > 7p2a chn

I'm not used to light blades . . .  I guess just felt a little better (preference) with heavier total weight.  I'm used to blades in the 85-90g range.  Big difference if you include the weight of rubbers.

For me lighter setup doesn't give me that much speed usually.

Aeoliah > Mark V wasn't fast?  What was the sponge hardness on it?

me too . . .  Bryce FX doesn't have that much speed.  I gotta generate my own speed with my stroke for that rubber.  I thought Sriver EL got me better results.  I guess preference as well.

I have bad experience with Nittaku blades. Their blades go "plonk" instead of "twoack" like Butterfly blades. Call me nuts, but I can't play with a blade that doesn't sound right. I hope Violin will sound right for you.

Also, I like to stick with hinoki. This wood is music to my ears -- An intimidating loud tearing "t-w-o-a-c-k" served as a death knell to my op.

Interesting... Looks like there is a performance gap between multi-ply hinoki and single-ply hinoki. There gotta be an explanation for this.

I have the same bias with some Carbon Blades.  I hate it when cheaper Carbon makes that flat annoying sharp plink sound when you hit it.

The main difference I see is weight and feel.  Single is usually heavier.

SDRamones, I did not really use the Mark V as it is on the BH side, and as soon as I feel the weight, I simply took it off.
By the way I am thinking to get Schlager Carbon J-pen, perhaps it will be available this month at the local shop. I want to try the fastest blade (or so they say) from Butterfly.
Khvn, that's it, I don't like the sound of my 7P2A Carbon too. Speed 90 and Borko make nice sound.

i would agree that the 7p-2a is one of the better cpen blades out there. easily my favourite one. fits the classic 'asian' game nicely but can still reloop from mid distance with power.

The Schlager being C-Pen will make a difference to it Speed-wise.  Most Shakehand Schlager Carbons I have tried were in the 94-97 gram range.  And it felt fast and hefty.  A 2-3 gram difference to the Schlager will take it down a notch from Super fast to just fast.    So I'm guessing that it will cut the weight being a Cpen version by at least 5 grams.

A big difference from the 80 gram blades that you are likely used to.  Even with the Cpen handle it will probably be a little less heavy but not much.  So I don't think the Cpen version will give you the aura of BTY's MOST fast blade.  It'll be fast but not BTY's fastest since it's shorter handle version.

What would be interesting  would be if they shifted the weight from the handle to the head of the blade so that tit wouls maintain it's shakehand version's weight of 95 grams.  Maybe made the head larger to encompass the loss weight of the handle.

At least it will be the fastest penhold blade.According to iruiru, the lightest C-pen version is 91 grams. I don't know what weight will be available from my local supplier.

bump

Is the 7P-2A cpen handle a cutdown straight? The japsupo photos look straightish. It looks pretty different to the jspeed90 and jspeed50 cpen handles.

silvalis, yes, it looks like it is a 'cut down straight' handle. but hte area where the fingers holds on is different from that of a sh blade.

khvn, if you are still interested, heres a small opinion on my part of what i thought between my 1 ply kokutaku bishu no1d50 jpen and darker 7p2a cpen. the jpen was quite a bit faster then the cpen and have less control, but i personally like the feel of the 7p2a alittle more. even though the 1 ply hinoki feels really great when looping, i thought the 7p2a had better feel for blocks and small table shots.

7homuz do the 7p2a cpens have a similar head shape to the jspeed90 cpen?

nevermind it looks the same shape.

Anybody noticed that on the picture posted by Genomicsknight the handle is not in line with the line of the wood ? My 7P2A carbon CHN is just like that so if you look at the lines on the wood, the handle looks a bit angled (I hope I am making myself clear). It is a shame that Darker overlook a thing like this.
