Hey everyone, quick equipment-weather question here:
Does it make sense to assume that an all-round allwoood Allplay might get a bit 'soggy' in Vietnam with close to 100% humidity? And maybe this is why it seems as though players favour fast carbon blades here? It may well be imagined or just the effect of the wet rubber but something feels different with my set up since coming back from cold, relatively dry Europe and I think a snappier set up with a carbon layer, which can't take in moisture, might help. Any advice welcome :) |

My place is just as humid or maybe even more so than Vietnam. I have owned and played dozens of mostly allwood blades for the past 40 years and never had what you term 'soggy' issue. I'm quite curious how a 'soggy' blade feels and plays. I sweat a lot and my blade handles are often drenched. I seal most of my blades though. Some of my blades are not sealed. I keep my blades in their jacket/bags in a cool dark place.

Well, rather than a 'soggy' blade issue it was probably just a case of the combined factors of playing in a different environment affecting my confidence.
But at least sealing my blade is probably a good idea as I do think that some of the extra sweat from my hands and the air moisture will find its way into the (wood of the) blade. All the wooden furniture here is really heavily sealed, too.

I'd say yes. It does affect it. Both allwood and composite blades suffer from it. But it tends to be feel more prominent in softer/flexier blades given the speed is relatively slow already.
Essentially, the moisture content affects the frequency of vibration of the blade, which has a direct relationship with the perceived speed. |

I would thoroughly dry out the blade and seal it in these conditions, would be interesting to weigh the blade before and after the drying out process, the Limba outer plies are more porous than the ayous inner
