Hi,

Has anyone used Dr.Neubauer Pistol and Leopard Short Pimple rubber. Is it good for hitting, blocking and chopping? What thickness of sponge is ideal for attack and defence? Any comments at all?

Thanks from
Pingpongstephen

There's been a number of reviews of Pistol, try a search.

Leopard is supposed to be the same as Friendship 802-1 which is much cheaper, so you might try that first.

Attackers use 1.5-2.0 sponge with short pips, defenders prefer 1.0 to 1.5. So 1.5 should be a good intermediate sponge thickness.

Ever searching for greater power I tried a sheet of pistol.
However though v fast due to hard sponge, as you would expect (from the Doc) its a form of medium lp, so that went straight in the bin.
Not for me.
Flarestorm on the other hand is super powerful Max is great for my fh. I have almost decided however to go back to Tyranno 1.5 for my bh (more control)

fastest i have used so far. Also good spin considering the speed.
With spin with sp i just look for the loop against block to feel natural (not fall off the bat). Not that i use the shot a lot but for me its what breaks down if my rubber isnt right
Against chop its great fantastic power and control.
Probably 802-40 is the best for spin I have used but it is not high tension so not so good on power

I am the player who play Short Pip for my FH and LP for my FH. My blade is Dr.Neubauer Special 2nd generation. I would say that the Leopard is the best short pip that I have ever played. It is not only provide a lot of control but also very fast ball with hitting since my blade is very thick ( I have no comment for its performance when play with thin blade ). When I do the slow topspin or lift , the ball show some effect that can make your opponent miss the ball. Overall , I love it. Please also note that I play with 2.0 mm sponge , black color.
