Is it a good rubber? Does it have the built-in speed glue effect as advertised?

Yes and yes.
It is a pretty fast, spinny rubber.  Speed is close to the Hammond series but spinnier. I am useing EEII with it now and it is even better.
It has a medium low throw, higher than H Pro but lower than Rosnet Air. Rosnet Air is rated the same but really is not quite as fast.
It blocks well, but is best for counter hitting and counter looping. I can brush loop with it but not my main weapon. It has pleanty of power away from the table but I try not to back off. I have it on fast blades so chopping is not ideal with the setups I use.
If you play like your avitor, you will like it.  Smile

I grabbed one of Hookshots old Energy Greens and loved it, but my playing partner loved it even more and stole it . . . I'm serious . . . he told me he stole it and never gave it back. So, now, every once in a while he uses it on me and it is deadly!!!!

hey, this is only initial impressions mind you. and its not really broken in yet. it was treated with 1 layer of ee2.

i had a nice cork sound, louder then my heavily glued cj8000 actually. but the heavily glued cj8000 played much much better for me (probably just because i'm more used to it i guess). the topsheet for the energy is pretty grippy, but nowhere as tacky as cj8000. it is much harder open up the point with the energy, and isnt really forgiving. if your stroke is slightly off, you are screwed.
again, that is probably because of the not-broken-in-yet sponge, so the ball couldnt really bite into the sponge just yet. short game is alright, pretty good for a rubber of this speed. looping is great, fast, and huge pop. but i cant really sense the spin yet.

i'm going on vacation tmr, so i wont get to try it out again till september. i certainly have to break it in first though. maybe glue it a few times will do it.

Joola Energy is a tensor rubber made by the German ESN of course.
Normally ,you should NOT treat a tensor rubber it with EE2. They are stretched enough and EE2 or speedglue would destroy them. But as Hookshot  mentioned, Energy is not  fragile so EE2 doesn't harm it.
Having destroyed many Donic Formula and Andro Plasma rubbers I was sure that Joola Energy would be the same crap. Surprisingly , the Energy  is alive and kicking even after 3 months !
It is not as good as a fresh glued Sriver-EL but it is very close. And remember Joola is not fresh glued!

Thanks to all of you for the inputs. What is the thickness of your Joola Energy?

I use Max. My style is loop drives, not brush loops. This might be why he hasn't found the spin yet. It is spinny when you put the power on. Also why it ignors the incomming spin to a degree on blocks.Smile

Hookshot,

Have you tried Andro Plasma before? I wonder if it is similar to Joola Energy.

I had a Plasma 470. Faster and harder than Energy . The glue effect is good.
BUT , it's fragile. The topsheet cracked deadly after ten hours of total playing.
If you want a hard sponge rubber with built in glue effect, try Catapult Hard instead.

Thanks Stavros,
and Jpen, I will check that site but it was not only Energy but several Joola rubbers that went up. I am waiting to see if other suppliers follow suit.

Yeah, I have the same kind of experience with my Plasma 430. It is really good and I like it, but it just does not last too long.....

As I told I'am playing with Mambo but I decided to try Joola Energy Xtra. Therefore I cannot compare the old and the new but eventually Mambo and Xtra.

I have used both Energy and Xtra over the last 3 months, though only for 2 weeks for Xtra. As noted above they are both fairly quick rubbers and yet retain a fair degree of control. I started out with EGP in 2mm which was very good, however I found a pronounced increase in spin generation when I moved up to MAX. Decent sound generation and feeling... though not the same as a full on glue job. EGP is supposed to be 42.5 degrees and has a white sponge similar in density to Bryce/Sriver EL.

Xtra is supposed to be 37.5 degrees and has an orange Sriver FX esque sponge. Spin and sound generation is greater than with EGP with a good level of control. I'm experimenting with Xtra MAX on backhand too and may switch in the coming weeks.

To sum up, I've been very impressed with both of these rubbers and have got used to playing without glue. Durability seems ok so far for EGP though I suspect the top sheet/sponge combination is good for 2-3 months serious play at most. Too early to tell with Xtra, but I suspect it's the same story.

P.S. XIOM blades are some of the best I've ever played with!

GraemeW,
Thanks a lot for the post. The information you provide here is very helpful! I think I will try EGP and Xtra soon. By the way, have you played Andro Plasma before? If yes, can you compare Plasma to EGP and Xtra?

I played briefly (5 mins) with one of the Plasma's (430 or 470 I think) about 6 months ago so it's hard to remember. Nice feeling, decent control with perhaps a slightly lower throw than the JOOLA though I couldn't be sure.
