Hello,
I am not much of an equipment guy, however last night at the club met a lady who was involved in serious accident a few years ago and was completely paralyzed for 2 years. She's now regained most of her movement but her strength still hasn't completely returned.

She would like to try and play TT but she said the racquets are still too heavy for to hold. I was wondering if people know extremely light racquets that might be available on the market. I would think balsa wood blade with hardbat rubbers would be the lightest setup?

Also, I would think she would mostly blocking and pushing the ball back as opposed to playing an serious TT. It would be used more as a rehabilitation exercise.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I suggested maybe a junior racquet might be available made of balsa. I suggested she check the taobao site.

I would second the Donic Cayman...maybe a good hardbat rubber, if she gets to be more competitive later this blade would also work well with ox long pips, and/or a thin sponged pips out to transition to a more advanced setup later on.

Tibhar IV-L Balsa and TSP Balsa blades are very very light. She can use 60-70g blade with classic soft rubber like Sriver FX, Vario Soft, Rapid Soft. Even in 2.0 it will be a crazy light setup with more than adequate power up to intermediate level.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. 60g appear to be the target weight.
I also recall I used to have a Dr. Neubaure Barricade which was very light - never weighed but felt like holding a sheet of paper.

If she has the money, speak to haggisv about the Reimpact brand, I believe (will correct it later if I am mistaken). They build blades for people in her circumstance.
I like putting heavy topspin on the ball...

She also probably wants a bouncy short pips without sponge rather than one of the USATT Hardbat Committee approved rubbers. Something like Hallmark Magic Pips or maybe a topsheet of 802-40.  She might even consider one or more sides with a thin sponge.  If strength is an issue, then having a decent amount of bounce from the racket will matter.  That argues for a relatively fast blade as well.

Thanks, the Barricade blade was extremely slow.  I would think the thicker balsa blades would be fast. Thanks for the short pips suggestion, didn't realize there are pips that are bouncier than the standard hard bat approved rubbers.

Yes, definitely.  Bouncier and with more spin.  That's one of the reasons there is a limited set of USATT Hardbat Committee approved rubbers.
