just got a sheet of this in. the sponge smells the same as the outlaw sponge,  it's a very strong chemical smell. the sponge looks rough and grainy. I hope I can try it out soon.

Wow! These names they are coming up with.

I played with the original Black Power for a short time. Can you state whether the Cake sponge is softer/firmer than the original black sponge?

I have never tried the original BP so I don't know, the golden cake sponge feels quite firm.

Where did you buy the golden cake sponge version from?  I only see the original BP on zeropong.  ttnpp perhaps?  I saw that they have the golden cake sponge version.

This rubber is quite firm and hard, not a soft sponge rubber.  The sponge definitely has a lot of spring to it.  Have not tried the golden cake sponge version tho just the original BP.

The GC sponge has a good spring on the low and middle gears but feels weak on the top gears, it kind of lacks them as compared to the old H3 Provincial. Hardness is about the same as BW2 41, very large granules that are difficult to cut, so I had to use scissors. Rubber is good for blocks and pushes, kind of backhand rubber which sounds like Boost TX.

Topsheed is not that shiny, opening spin is excellent.

Uncut - 68 g, cut to Stiga Clipper - 48 g.

Tried only the black one with black sponge. Have no intention to try the red one.

So the GC sponge is not yellow (as in the packaging adverts) but black still? How does it compare to the original?

BW2 41 is hard. That used to be my FH rubber. I've never heard of a stock rubber with no hardness selection being that hard before. Usually when you want a rubber that hard, there are options like BW2.

If it's really as hard as BW2 41, then less than 10% of the people who use chinese rubber are even going to be able to use it effectively anyway.

the way you describe it though sounds exactly like the original black power- Good spring on lower gears but weak at faster play and off the table. good spin. Are you sure you got the new one?

Have no idea. Never used the original BP. Ordered only the black BPGC.

Indeed, the difference between BW2 40 and 41 is too big. BPGC is closer to 41, though I have tried to soften it when uncut.

Much better on the second day. Seems that the special tuning and the ultratin w/b glue have had their effects only now. The black BPGC now is definitely better (faster, with more power and spin) than the untuned red old H3 Prov 40. The black topsheet still looks cheap.

I tried it yesterday on my lissom. It's a fast rubber with a high throw, and lightly tacky topsheet. Feels a bit like Gambler Outlaw with a harder sponge and a tacky topsheet. It doesn't have much catapult like H3(tuned by ttrubberman),BW2 Factory tuned or Tenergy 05. It's just fast and spinny. No acceleration or spring effect on fast loop shots or smashes. It's definitely less sensitive to spin than BW2 and H3.

Sounds like the typical 729/LKT type product, combination spin generation, semi-tacky and softer topsheet? So no springiness in short game either I assume, and is there a spin drop off on loop drives as opposed to brush loops?

No annoying springness in the shortgame. There is definitely  a spin drop on loop drives as opposed to brush loops. When i was driving the ball to much my loops were not very spinny.

Wow I just stuck this on a a YMLSC,  to try out later today. What I want to say now is that I opened the package three days ago, and still I need to hold my breath whenever I bring the bat above belly height. This rubber smells bloody awful. And also, I had to use edge tape to prevent the sponge from crumbling spontaneously/self destructing through the cut edges. I don't like gear that doesn't play the same day in day out. And when something smells it's basically evaporating so I can foresee that this one will be changing wildly these days. Hopefully it settles in quickly to a no stench mode - right now it is just unbearable and nauseating. I don't know if the regular black power is like that as well or not. On the other hand I found Red Diamond ok for smell and crumbliness.
