My brother likes to buy a blade around $100-$150 USD. His rating is around 1500 (US rating) and an offensive player. He is learning to get better. Which blade would you recommend? Thank in advance.

Alot of good blade out there with that price. Blade have 2 types: wood and carbon. For wood: He could try Nittaku Acoustic for close to table play, Violin for mid distance. Carbon blade: If he like Butterfly then try , Timo-Boll spirit, Photino, Ishlion, Amultart.

Tell him to save his money and buy a blade for 40-50 dollars tops. Terrific soft carbon blade like Galaxy W-1 can be had for $60, or he can have K-4 or K-6 for $50, which are at least as good as Butterfly originals TBS and Maze. If he wants a wooden blade then tell him to get a 3- or 5-ply Hinoki like Butterfly Kiso V ($50-60) or Galaxy W-6 for $30... that should be quite enough, and he will have room to grow. Really... Unfortunately I cannot plug my favorite Friendship V-6 here - because the manufacturer has discontinued the entire line, and it's become a rarity (a hundred blades in the whole wide world, I assume). |

Do you know why?
Do you know what blade and rubbers your brother is currently using? Is he looking to improve speed, power or control? |

He just got back to the sport. Therefore, he is searching for an equipment that will help him to improve his game. For right now, he has one powerful shot on his forehand, no control or backhand loop yet.

The Xiom Stradivarius and the Timo Boll Spirit could be good choices. The Michael Maze Off could also be a good choice, as I personally feel it has better control than the Boll Spirit. It has a bit softer outer-plies than the Spirit, which gives it better feel.
I have a Straight handled one (Michael Maze Off) for sale, let me know if he could be interested!

Zeropong was informed that they stopped the production... but no reasons were given. Everybody just assumed that it was due to some legal problems with Xiom (because those lines looked like straight Xiom clones) |

Hello JimT,
If you're still interested in the Friendship V-6, you can still buy them at Eacheng.net http://www.eacheng.net/upload/863106b0215967f8711cbe6c6b8a269e.jpg

I have contacted them of course a long time ago and they told me that they only had ones weighed at... drum roll... 98 g ! But if you don't mind that kind of weight then I very very much recommend V-6 - I love it! In my opinion it plays better than TBS and Maze and Xiom Stradivarius... |

98 gr, Jim? My goodness you will be doing bicep curls with that kind of weight. Is Eacheng the only place that sells V-6 now? |
