Greetings...

I have recently joined my University's TT team, and have been playing recreationally in the Uni. I am currently using a Butterfly Secretin (All), with Mark V (old) on FH and Sriver-D13 (S) on BH. The rubbers are almost dead (especially the Sriver), so I decided to get some new equipment.

At first I thought I'd go with a speedier setup (Korber+Sriver EL), but I've noticed that I lack control in my game, while my speed seems more than adequate. In fact, too many of my balls go wide.

I also don't have a "killer instinct" and like to play a partially defensive and controlled game (especially on BH) with topspin and smash (I'm pretty good at that) attacks when opportunity presents itself. So I've decided to go for a Maximum control setup. From what I've seen and read on the internet, I've come to the following conclusion... I have some questions about it and would appreciate any input you might have:

Blade: Donic Defplay Senso - it seems to be suited for both defensive and AR offensive play. Should give me good topspin options. I considered going with Donic Appelgren Allplay Senso V2 - but I'm worried that it might be too small and perhasp too fast...What do you think?

FH: BTY Tackiness-Chop.

BH: Donic Slive 40 (1.5mm).

Questions:

1. What thickness should I choose for my FH? I need optimum spin and control. Speed for smashes I can generate myself. Should I go with 1.5 or 1.7mm?

2. Should I go for another rubber, like Donic Quattro (Medium or Soft)?

3. Should I wait and go for Tackiness-Chop II? It is supposed to be speedier, but will it cost me in control?

Any input would be greatly appreciated, and I REALLY need to get my equipment within the next two weeks...

Regards,

Dani

Well if you need speed for your smashes, you should get at least 2.0 mm/

I think that Quattro would be OK.

For forehand go with Tackiness-Chop.

For backhand, try Yasaka Mark V in 2.0.

So overall I'd go with this

Blade: DONIC Appelgren Allplay Senso V2

Forehand Rubber: Butterfly Tackiness-Chop

Backhand: Yasaka Mark V 2.0 mm

Hope this helps!

i actually agree that sriver would be the best choce.....if you like donic go for vario. its a softer equivilant.

i would go with a balso core blade to.

Tibaher chila light blade
Joola tango 2.0 on backhand
BTY Bryce 2,1 forehand

Your blade and rubbers are so old they belong in the Smithsonian. 25 years old! Better to store your old racket and get new. Get any good quality ALL+ all wood blade with Sriver/Mark v/ Vario or even try a mild tensor rubber like Yasaka Extend. Most important aspect is try and get coaching.
