I think Im at like $75 bucks right now, just need to sand and paint the edges and maybe put some cool stickers on the sides or something....I didnt want to buy a brand new one as it stays in the garage and suffers from the heat and cold....Would break my heart to see a new table warp or something from being out in the elements, and I cant afford an outdoor table either.....

that's sweet. but $75 is starting to get up there. I've seen tables from moving sales etc. on craigslist for about 100-150.

Minus 15 bucks for the net I guess
I guess its also the satisfaction of saying i built it, so I guess its worth it. I also build poker tables and its great to look at the finish project, kick back and have a beer and enjoy looking at what you built

Offical size is 5'x9'. I think the tops are pretty much a special order at a lumber yard, Home Depot, Lowes, etc.

wow.... thats very very impressive ....i know cuz i built one too it looks like a pro made it! what do u do for a living?
and where did u get those legs for it ....thats what i need for mine, i just have folding ones
also if u have plans on how u built it, please send them to me i would like to see them and how u got that rail in there that looks like boards from a hockey rink ....really adds to the cool factor
and what did u use for the playing surface ? i found some really slippery suede the cards just glide right across the table . i know some other plp. who have problems with that and i have found that if u spray a bunch of starch that u use for ironing it really help the cards slide( after it dries)
i also plan on getting my arm rail rapped in some nice leather to replace the vinyl

Looks great poislb. Here is what I plan on doing, I was going to build my own and use a discarded frame like poislb did however, I keep hearing different stories about the difference in playability when using paint for the top and the actual table tennis paint is really expensive. So what I am going to do is get a table from my friend who is upgrading and I am going to take the top off his and laminate it to 3/4in particleboard cut to exact size as the top. This will required 2 4x8 sheets as the regulation size of each side of the table is 5x4 1/2. The two pieces together will give me a thickness of 1 1/8inches or 25.4mm this is with a original top of 3/8 of an inch if the original top is 1/2in then you will end up with a top thickness of 1 1/4 or 31.75mm. Pretty solid top if you ask me. Then you only have to paint the side walls of the table and that obviously doesn't affect play. A sheet of 3/4 in. 4x8 particle board runs +/- $18.00 at our local Lowe's or Home Depot, so for around $40.00 or so plus whatever you pay for a used table you could have a pretty decent table for a fraction of the cost that a table that is 25mm thick would normally cost you.

Please tell us: did you decide NOT to have a robot?
can you tell us why what you do is better than having a robot at home?
Thank you.

poislb: Nice work on the table and good find on the legs! I read the entire thread and must have missed the answer about material. Which wood did you use on the table?
I'm building a scaled down table for my seven-year-old daughter (3.5x6.3') out of 1" MDF and laminated blue top (black edges and bottom) and using steel fold-up sawhorses for legs. This size is good for my daughter and yet the pieces are small enough for me to man-handle for easy set-up and take-down. I'm just going to use one white line down the middle due to the size. I'm using laminate only to make it more durable and so I can use it for other purposes around the house and have easy clean-up. I know that the formica laminate will be too slick (used them in college), but it's good for her for now.
I'm curious, what is your best measurement of the bounce (according to USATT or ITTF rules for tables)?
