I have been speedglueing for a month now i think, and i have never got a real dome after a good glueing. Even with 4 layers i still dont get a dome with Bryce FX, geospin tacky, 999, milky way etc...

Does anyone have a time limit or list of exact steps they could give?

firstly id like to say that when the rubber domes...thats when youve overglued...

but you should remove the residue on each rubber after every 10 layers of glue...

glue twice at the most with all those rubbers you have mentioned.

I glue until I get a dome. Not a huge one, but that is the only way I get perfect feel.
I do agree about removing the glue. That is essential.

If you want to get a dome, take off the glue. If that doesn't work, then you can heat up the sponge with a blow drier or by placing it near a heater. It will then be more receptive to the glue.
Also, apply a coats relatively quickly. Don't wait.

if its cleaned sponge then you can wait...but then if its clean it absorbs almost immediately so you dont have to wait for it to dry... i usually wait until the glue isnt tacky on the sponge anymore before applying another layer.

Another trick that you can use is after you apply your coat of glue throw a piece of plastic wrap over the sponge.  That forces the solvent to go down instead of evaporating off the top.  In fact you can wrap it completely in plastic wrap and it will keep the vapors in quite a while, like maybe 4hours.

Smittysan,

What speed glue are you using? I have no trouble getting my Geospin (reg), any of several 999 varieties, or MilkyWay 9000 to dome.

I mostly use a home brew, but have used Asti, dawei, and Tibhar, and Butterfly speed glues previously. I threw out some nasty Donic gunk one time - it was horrible.

Cole's plastic wrap trick helps.

I also like to use a booster (solvents only) after I get a few layers of glue on. It stretches the time between glue removals, which is a very good thing!

Just to say that I used Cole's plastic wrap method last night and got a superb glue job. I think this may well be a good way of getting a fairly consistent glue effect from application to application... time will tell! Thanks Cole!

Better say, its not my trick.  Although I did figure it out myself, later I found out it's common practice.  In2spin told me he learned it from misha.

you can use the glass method, like the one that cole_ely mentioned but with glass.
you stick the recently glued rubber(in wet state) into a glass and put a book to maintain it attached to the glass .
let it there for about an hour and you will have a pretty good dome!
then apply a thin layer onto the blade and do the same with the rubber, let it dry and...you will have a sppinnier rubber with incredible speed depending the glue you used
:D:D

hope this works for you.

If you don't get a dome on these rubbers your speed glue is not working anymore. Don't leave the bottle open too long or all solvents are gone
Get Stiga Energy, Butterfly Fair Chack or Tibhar Rapid Clean. These are good.
