I'm a little confused about when and how to prep rubber before gluing.
Does it depend on the type of sheet? Does it depend on the type of glue? Blade? Etc. |

If you are using regular (non-speed) glue, just put one layer of glue on the blade and one layer on the rubber sponge - let dry about 10 minutes - then apply the rubber to the blade.
If you are using speed glue, one method (there are many) is to put at least 3 to 4 layers on the brand new rubber sponge to prime it - if you don't, the rubber won't stick to the blade. Let dry about 10 minutes - then put a final layer of glue on the rubber and one layer of glue on the blade - let semi dry about 3 minutes - if you are happy with the amount of "dome", then apply the rubber to the blade. Otherwise add more speed glue to the rubber sponge and wait a few minutes for a higher dome. Different rubbers and glues have different results.
For me, it doesn't really matter what kind of blade you use for the gluing process.
Also, search the forum for other gluing methods.

I'm currently using two glues . . . DHS T.T. Racket Glue and experimenting with Elmer's Rubber Cement. I've been gluing as recommended in the previous post and having some success as of late, but I've read some posts about the rubber stretching and having to be re-cut. I haven't experienced this, but taste in rubbers is becoming quite expensive (you all know what's that's like) and I don't want to mess up my rubber or my blade. So, the stretching phenomenon is limited to speed gluing? If you are correct, that's great. Speed glue is an area I'm avoiding at this time.
