Subject: What Oversized Blade is BEST?
Date Posted: 07/22/2007 at 12:13pm
I'm looking to try an oversized blade, but not sure what to look for. I normally use a fast, light, stiff carbon.

Are there any offensive oversized blades?

Are there any Chinese made offensive oversized blades?

Thanks!

Yeahr, it has to be light because of the extra rubber weight!

YIKES, I just checked the price of this blade. I'm sure it's great, but if I bought it I would be homeless!

i've played with all of stiga's oversized blades and, in my mind, the OFFENSIVE OVERSIZE is the best.  the CARBO OVERSIZE is good, too, but it's way too heavy!

Posted By: Wawaicetea123
Date Posted: 07/22/2007 at 7:09pm
how much did it weigh????

Posted By: takaaki
Date Posted: 07/22/2007 at 7:23pm
sorry, i dunno.

but on the PADDLE PALACE website, it lists the ALLROUND at 85, the CARBO at 90, the OFFENSIVE at 91 and the CLIPPER at 92.

like i said i played with all of them and for me the CARBO was clearly the heavier blade.  the CLIPPER was no. 2 and the OFFENSIVE, no. 3.

but, of course, there's no way to guarantee you will get a blade at the stated weight, which is why some websites will give you the weight and then say "plus or minus 5 gms."

i also bought a clipper once in japan and it was 87 gms.  that was the lightest (and best) one i had ever had and, as fate would have it, i broke it!  i bought another clipper here and it just wasn't the same.

it's a shame japan is so damn far away.  if you want to buy a good quality blade that's where you wanna go...

I use only one side at a time, but put a rubber on both. The reason weight is an issue is because I will be using much more rubber to cover, i.e. Hurricane III is HEAVY at the normal size.

But mostly . . . I LIKE IT LIGHT.

I wish I could get the MC-1 or x50 BIGGER. I like those two. So, I guess I'm looking for something light, fast, and stiff. Yikes, this is sounding like a gay porno ad.

kinda off topic but has anyone heard of a player useing a almost defensive blade like an all+ and then just swing really hard and almost out of control but they can also block controlably i have had that idea have never owned a "slow" blade to test this out

Takaaki,
if you buy from iruiru, you can ask the available weight alternatives, and then you choose one. The one chosen by you is the one which will be sent, so you know the exact weight in advance.
Tommyzai,
If you are penholder, then you can try Schlager Carbon X-CS (mine is 92 grams) but I don't know what is the weight alternatives available currently.

I'm not a penholder, but the blade sounds good. Do they make a SH (ST or FL) model?

I'm confused about what to get. All the Oversized Blades seem to be defensive. I need one for hitting and blocking.

:-(. So far it looks like my best affordable option (under $75) is the Stiga Offensive or Clipper. Any thoughts?

Okay, it looks like the Stiga Oversized series might be my best best for the price-range. Which one is the best for attack? CARBO? OFFENSIVE? CLIPPER?

considering that you are using hurricane or any chinese rubbers, the clipper and the offfensive will yield a heavy setup. Unless you can find a clipper around 80-85. I'd go for clipper.

Mece, do you mean I should try the OFFENSIVE if I can't find a CLIPPER that's light?

basically, there are better chances of finding a lighter OC than clipper. I believe you can ask the store for weight options  in stock, and then select your blade.

I searched the far reaches of the earth and found an Clipper OS at 83 grams. :-).

Thank you all for the great advice. I think I found two blades worth trying . . . the Stiga Clipper Oversized at 83 grams and the Gambler Oversized at 80 grams.

As the Gambler (Kevlar) Oversize is my blade of choice, I'd just like to say this is probably a good deal slower than you'd be comfortable with, and it is monstrous. I've gotten secondhand rubber from others with OV blades who assured me that the cuts were plenty big for mine, and as of now they've all been a very, very tight stretch; covering that much racket costs you quite a bit in terms of weight.

If this is the option you decide on, make sure you get the Gambler Carbon Oversize, as apparently it's slightly faster and stiffer (and of course, you could choose to sand down some of the hock-ness on that monstrosity to save on weight) and it might just suite your style.

GOOD LUCK on your search Big%20smile.

Jack,
I've ordered a Gambler Carbon Oversize. Is there much of a difference between the Kevlar and Carbon?

Thanks.

All of a sudden I'm in debt from buying Oversized blades, but I got a good deal on TWO Stiga Clipper WRBs that weigh in at 83 and 85 grams. I didn't expect the emails I sent all over the world to amout to anything, but the Japanese must have love for Tommy Zai. From what I've heard . . . I lucked out!!! :-). I better hide them from g/f.

My blades are on the way, but I decided I will only keep one. The other I will sell on here. It seems I found a great deal on a great lightweight Clipper Oversize. I will pass this deal onto one of you if you like . . .
$55.00 including shipping to USA. That should cover the price+shipping+PayPal fee.

I'll tell you this . . . most of the Oversized are almost the same, just a little bigger. I was expecting OVERSIZED to be HUGE . . . worried about all the extra weight from additional rubber coverage, but it's not so much!!!
I did hear there are a couple really big ones out there.
