Hi I'm still pretty new at table tennis (though i did play in a club like 15 years ago) and I'm going to the US to visit my sister in a couple of months so I will order some TT stuff to my sister and bring it back with me to Cyprus. (prices are ridiculous here and shipping here is insane not to mention any added tax for goods coming from outside EU) so I might as well get a few things when I'm in the US.. (and the current weak dollar will give me quite a lot for my money). as the Swede that i am.. i'm Stiga biased (not for any logical reason just a matter patriotic emotions) so I'm considering buying 2 blades as follows: probably from www.ping-pong.com ($80) Blade: STIGA Allround Classic Anatomic Red Rubber: STIGA Innova Ultra Light R 1.8mm Black Rubber: STIGA Evo B 1.8mm though i wonder if the Innova Ultra light will be too fast for me.. but its very high control.. so hopefully that will help keep the ball on the table.. as a second blade: from www.zeropong.com Gambler Arylate Carbon with Four Kings = $45 this second blade is more of a cool thing, get a carbon blade for 45 USD.. as to my style, i like control with random bursts of offensiveness. normally i find myself at medium distance from table. currently my backhand land more often on the table then my forehand.. initially i think of the stiga one as my "main" but maybe the gambler will be my real one after a while.. anyway.. any thoughts? cheers Martin |

I recommend the Allround blade for your first blade. I would have the Gambler blade as the second blade

i advise u to the get the blade that u likes dont care wat ppl say too fast or slow for u
like me i bought my 1st blade, acoustic, ppl say its a too fast blade for me as a beginner, but i just like it will do. the 2nd thing hav to do is to used to the blade, then u can play well

The selection you chose would seem to be great. An all around medium speed racket at first is great, to get some stroke technique and figure out what you want to be your style of play.
1.8 is pretty thin though, so you might be sacrificing a little control and spin. And control at your point is cruesal (sp). 2.0 is a great size!
But that racket seems like a great choice. Good luck, let me know what you end up getting. -------------

Good combos. Would recommended a Yasaka Extra good control with speed; it's not a Swedish company but the blade is made in Sweden.

thanks for your responses, I selected the thinner rubbers as i was under the impression that thinner rubbers generally give you more control? as for the Yasaka Extra, i was considering one Yasaka blade.. the Yasaka Sweden Classic, lots and lots of control :) the extra looks fast cool too though still got a few months to decide what to get.. hopefully i can play some more rackets of friends to get some better idea whats out there :) cheers |

| 1.8 is too thin. You will bottom out and hit wood too much. Unless you plan to chop or defend, I wouldn't recommend it. |

Your 1st choice seems to be just great n FYI that was my 1st serious Shkhnd blade since my teenage years. U might wanna pick 2.0 Innova UL, good lite rbrs. My BH rbr for that blade was Bty Tackiness Drive 2.0 blk, not as sticky as some of the Chinese Rbrs but with superb control n I could still recall my BH loopdrives/drives just landed n landed. Dunno whether u r weight sensitive or not but my preference would be between 80g - 86g. Btw, that Stiga of mine was 1980s Allround ULF Carlsson Anatomic handle, the best blade I've ever owned/played. No idea how good the Allround blades these days.
Another th'n is if u wanna consider Yasaka blade, there is an used 1 here @ the forum belongs to this user, Penguin which, in my opinion is worth a look n also dirt cheap:

I'm not trying to sell it for him but I'm surprised @ this price n condition, people seem to overlook/under-estimate it.

Thanks for your comments! I'm still not fully decide on the handle type if Anatomic of Flared the racket i have now is a little bit anatomic (as it goes out a bit in the middle and then flare a bit at the end) and this one sits nice in my hand.. soo ya i'm am a bit anatomic biased :) cheers! |
