seems like you can only see it on the Eurosport Asia Pacific subchannel. I have no idea how to see that, I've never seen anything else than the normal Eurosport on my telly.

Coming up in a few minutes: Germany - Denmark. Both teams won their first matches, but Germany had a lot of trouble with a very young French team (Mattenet, Lebesson, Salifou) - Boll was down 8-10 in the fifth against Lebesson before pulling off the win. Lebesson had beaten Ovtcharov. |

I have just watched it and it works. Russia - Croatia 3:0 wow, I didn't expect that. For some reason, Tan Ruiwu doesn't play and when Kuzmin managed to defeat Primorac 3:2 in the first match, it was pretty clear the match is basically over (then Smirnov - Gacina 3:0, Rubtsov - Redjep 3:0) ------------- Single Ply Hinoki Club, Founding Member Say "no!" to expensive table tennis equipment. Blocking appears to be very important/effective in the "new era". Both Boll and Samsonov used the block to great effect (esp. Samsonov). Even Nehkvedovich almost blocked his way past Dima, much closer than expected. Singles should be interesting. Tough to beat Samsonov if he plays like he did today. |

True. Nekhvedovich played this tourney pretty well - e.g., beating Smirnov in the crucial match with Russia. He was pretty close in this one but... no cigar. Check it out on TTlive now, they will not let Smirnov play with his racket as they say he used the 'wrong glue'.
The coach is going crazy.

It was about the thickness, not about "wrong glue". They eventually let him play with his spare racket (although that was clearly warped too), and he won the match. Round of 16 is tomorrow morning (starting at 2am Eastern). ttlive.tv now broadcasts on two channels, with #2 carrying the TV feed. |

It does look like Stiga which is a surprise as Smirnov is a Donic man... Also, yes, it was due to thickness problem but Smirnov was evidently amazed at the fact that this was the same racket he used for the last 3-4 days and never had any problems before. As I saw the images of the judges during that match, I think it could be so that Smirnov tuned his rubber only in the middle (larger sponge thickness in the middle), so they can not messure over 4mm at the edges ... ... Smirnov is Stiga and has been for quite some time.....
It would be really strange if he is tuning Boost TP but maybe he wants to make it a little softer and get a glue effect. Who knows.
The umpires were measuring his thickness with the net measurer and accused im numerous times of using the 'wrong glue' and therefore expanding his rubbers over the maximum length. Sounds very stpuid on the umpires part as he was using it in his previous matches, but he appeared to have placed edging tape on a small part of the balde possibly hiding some overhang? Anyone else see that

Yeh you're right he was Donic before.
Yeh I thought he was using a Clipper but he must have changed. This blade had yellow bits on the handle. I am almost sure that it was the 'Optimum Carbo'.

Samsonov played Gardos (4-0) at 01030 Central European Time. Boll-Schlager has just started 1130 CET, Boll 2-0 up and looks a heavy favourite. The mens final is at 1700 CET 1600 UK time But the st petersburg live feed image quality is truly dreadul!!  |

A wonderful rally in 4th game Boll-Schlager Boll leading,. was the 6th point Boll 4-1 up... must have been 20-25 shots Schlager BH vs Boll FH away from table. Incredible!! Boll has won 11-7, 11-5, 11-3, 11-5. Schlager was not in form, quite a few airshots and looked like he may have had a wrist injury of somesort. Samsonov v Boll Final..... |

ttlive broadcast via the 'mogulus' system requires highest bandwidth. It is not watchable with 1mb bps - stops and starts every second. Pity because it denies TT fans around the world from watching European Championships. I'd wrriten to them switch to Sopcast type p2p broadcasts, and its free too for them, but they persist in using out of date transmissions. So I always give ttlive broadcast a miss. Sowhysoserious - kindly upload in .avi Most players can handle that. Thanks. |

I don't know where you live but in this part of the world 1mb/s DSL connections have been replaced a looong time ago. 3mb/s is the slowest one can buy iirc. Mogulus is streaming software while sopcast is P2ptv. Sopcast makes sense if you have many viewers (such as cctv) which (I guess) is not the case with ttlive, hence the need for streaming. |

VirtualDub is freeware, I think - choose ffdshow codec or MS Video H.261 - they both were used in videos presented here and results looked very decent. If you are missing some codecs, download CCCP package from here http://www.cccp-project.net/ Start with a smalll sample video - 1 min long - and see how big the file is. Vladi disappointed me somewhat - I thought (especially after he trounced Timo in the teams competition) this was his title to lose. And he did... I agree, I though Vladi for sure was going to take the gold, especially after he handled Boll in the teams, he picked Boll apart with relative ease and forced him to make a lot of mistakes. When did he move to Spain?

Just this summer, I think. He left Villerois in Belgium for which he has played 6 or 8 years straight... said he wanted something new, something to motivate him, to try new things. On a different note: What about girls, huh? Who could imagine Ruta Paskauskiene would win the singles gold... she is a very experienced player but it seems like she was on fire this year!
