The other day I've got one new PK and to my great surprise, it was 76 g. How is that possible?

BTW, our broken Virtuoso is up and running. Tongue

Quite light non-Japan Korbels can be found .

I would return it if I was you, as 76 grams is definitely too light for a Petr Korbel.

Less dense poorer quality wood; has obviously been used in its construction and I think you've possibly got a dud. It's certainly not going to perform as well as a Petr Korbel of a decent weight, like 88-92 grams.

You can probably get away with a lighter 85 gram Petr Korbel; but I wouldn't recommend anything lighter.

mine is 77 grams, but strangely it feels heavier than my 83gr acoustic both blades with tenergies on both sides...

Because Korbel Head size is bigger than Acoustic. More rubber stick on the blade means heavier.

My Korbel ST is 94 gr with JTTA marking. Feels head heavy and the handle isn't big enough for my big hands Cry

really? That's rare as it's even heavier than (may be as heavy as) my last SC-FL, List/post it in the FS section, I'm sure there'll be taker.

Actually, I love it. It is a perfect match for the heavy Haifu, H2+3 or Tenergy. Well-balanced, flexible, controlled, and extremely fast on the top gears.

Yes, the handle is smaller than Mazunov's one. A grip would shift the balance lower.

It takes a lot of effort and waiting time to buy it. I got it from graetzh last year and I'll just keep it Wink
My new bought Innerforce ZLC ST also has the same shape of handle like korbel Confused
If I never tried Violin L-sized ST, probably korbel ST handle would be big enough.

My PK is roughly 100gr; now that it has a few dings it lost 2-3grs. Heavy PK is more desirable to me. If you don't want your over 100gr PK send them to me!!!

Here ends the myth of BTY QC. 24 g for a blade is hell of a deviation.

I have two BTY Korbels (both FL and Made in Japan/JTTAA). One I bought in 2008, and one I got a few weeks ago. The older one feels a bit heavy, maybe around 90 to 95 grams? But the new one weighs 86.4g (I asked the shop for one close to 85g). The new one feels great, and it's actually very tolerable with T05 on it because of the lighter weight.

Butterfly Quality Control is typically very consistent (of course there are some variances, especially because it is a wood product, but there is a very low number of these anomalies). 76 g sounds a bit ridiculous though, especially for BTY. Weird, huh? Shocked Where did you buy it?

My Korbel FL is 89 grams.  But I have weighed many Korbel and found many as heavy as 93, 95 and 101 grams.  But 92 - 95 grams are the norm.

My Korbel CO (conic) is only about 87 grams.

Both CO and FL have thin handle.

I had a chance to weight my P. Korbel Fl last night, it weights 96gr.  I was quite surprised, as it did not feel heavy at all...

Butterfly's QC is much more consistent with their composite blades, usually within 3-5 grams blade to blade and the advertised weight.

I have 2 Kobels: 86 g FL (Hungarian) and 89 g FL (Japanese), which play the same although they are different weights and colors (Japanese's handle is darker on mine, in contrast to tiehwen's picture above). The specs say it should be 89 grams +/- 5 (including variations for different types of handles), which means anything from 84 to 94 grams should be considered standard. Outside this range, it should not be considered the same blade. Headsize of Korbels is very consistent.

It may or may not be very nice fit for particular player or rubber combo and may or may not have excellent playing properties; however, -13 grams away from the norm makes it a "custom blade". There is simply no way to maintain even remotely the same playing properties with that big a difference.

Mr. Velikov won the first place of the  Lyulin Open and his prize was a brand new Korbel 76 g. Again 76 - only the logo was the new metal one, not the old black motherpearl one as of mine.

Those are too light. I like them heavy because in the 90s they used to sell them and listed at 96gr each. I had one and traded but only the heavy new one plays like the older one. Also the wood looks like it too--at one angle the wood looks dark and as you change the angle it turns white. 3D effect?

I remember how silly I was, when I found a brand new Korbel AN with metal tag (old stock) but didn't buy it.   It was about a year ago.  The weight is 93 grams.  At that time, I felt that AN handle was still quite slim.  Now I regret it because current Korbel with silver tag can't compete with my old Korbel FL with metal tag.  It is quite hard to get the metal tag now.

Tiehwen must be cursing at my stupidity.  I should have bought the AN handle and sell it to Tiehwen for a big profit Cry.

+1.
IMHO, PK of all handles except Conical still can be had from some countries in Europe, but are these genuinely "Made in Japan"? I personally doubt it. I'm not saying that these other makes play bad or worst than the older genuine models, still I just prefer/like the models that I've shown better, they just look so "right" in my eyes. I played quite a lot w/that An. shown on the left of the 2nd pic. (it was just cheap then like 34.90 USD), but it was stolen from my kid's backpack few months ago when he was playing 1 morning as he left his backpack unattended and wide open. Can't really believe that there was a thief (could be a parent of 1 of his team mates Angry) in my t/t club.
The ST on the left side of the 1st pic. is special in the sense that its handle is smooth, it has serial # but with old Btfly metal logo & the ST handle on the right has different color/textile and slightly thicker as well & that can still be bought.
PK An w/o serial # as good condition as I've shown just can't be found/had anymore....

It is BTY Korbel AN made in Japan with old BTY Metal Tag.  I just forgot whether it had serial number or not.   Too bad I didn't get it.

PK-ST w/Silverish tag was from http://www.tt-japan.net - www.tt-japan.net thro' an US buddy. It was called PK-ST Special then. It's handle is darker, rougher. The other older 1 w/older metal tag was from http://www.presports.com - www.presports.com long ago, it wasn't that expensive then.
IMHO, both are nice no-nonsense all wood blades, nut'n to shut about yet these are all keepers.
