Thanks amateur for the links!
Is the world cup qualifier - 1 vs 8, 2 vs 7 etc ( this would mean Pradee would play Yiyong as the first match) or is there a random draw?
Regards

I'll bring my current set, which is amultart + 05 and 05 fx ;)

For spark I have to boost my tenergies before gluing it... I'll be there on saturday and sunday from the morning till probably the end.

Do you know if those stores are giving any deals?

For example in Polish open this year there were stores which were selling stuff with 20-30% off.

Are you gonna play or just watch? :)

Ah, just found my own answer.  Xavier Therien was upset by Timothy Wang for one result.

Therien is a 2500~2600 level player, and Tim Wang's game has improved to at least 2500+ so it's hardly an upset.

Timothy Wang is still a teenager too.

So evidently there's no live stream, but TT Canada is saying this:
"The events on Saturday will be produced for TV and will eventually be featured on the ITTF’s highly popular itTV. TMS will also produce a highlights package for broadcast and distribution throughout North America."

Great win for Ariel. That qualifies her for the Women's World Cup in Singapore in October. Last 2 years Zhang Mo went to the World Cup, before that it was Gao Jun (many times) and Wang Chen (once).

I was cheering for MO! But when I saw her outside talking on her phone to someone, while crying after match, I felt really bad for her Ouch

Anyways... in first match of team competiotion MO beat Ariel 3:0 without any problems.

Seniors are playing right now while I have to sit at home...
Tomorrow is gonna be another interresting day for sure!
Let's arrange meeting at certain time, at certain place? Tongue

i was there the whole day today.

The whole day was full of major upsets.

After Mo lost to Ariel 4-0 on the finals for open women or w.e, she returned to handle ariel 3-0 and then erica wu 3-0 as well i believe.

ull be surprised to find that Carmen Lee beat Lily Zhang.  Relatively big upset there.

On the mens side, PPP lost 5th game deuce to fan yiyong.  Pierre-Luc hinse got revenge by beating Timothy wang 3-1 to make the match 1-1.

The doubles was ez for the canadians as the two pierre luc's (Hinse and Theriault) beat fan and mark hazinski.

Pierre Luc theriault closed out the match by beating timothy wang 3-2.  I would believe this match was an upset as well.

Will she play the main event? I think there's some qualification rounds for champions from N. America, Africa etc...

Yes, it's called the "Intercontinental Cup": round robin against the champions from Latin America, Africa, Oceania. Winner advances to the top 16. I wouldn't be surprised if Ariel made it, by October she'll be even better than now.

Thats sucks that Fan Yiyong had to play PPP in the first round, the 4-3 duel looked like it was good stuff but less likely it was recorded.

NA Championships semifinals

men's:
Peter-Paul - Chen Hongtao 4-2
Hinse - Timothy Wang 4-2

women's:
Zhang Mo - Wu Yue 4-3
Lily Zhang - Ariel Hsing 4-2

na championship finals:

hinse vs ppp: 4-2
mo vs lily: 4-1

tbh, u guys shud watch out for lily zhang more than ariel.  shes a year younger, currently ranked #2 in the world for u-15 and shes beaten ariel twice in this tournament (while losing once to ariel).

i watched her play many matches and shes just as good if not better than ariel.  The only thing i would give ariel an advanatage in, is experience

I attended the tournament on Sunday and thoroughly enjoyed the high calibre of play.  However, I was disappointed with the small crowd and did not see any local media coverage.  Given the magnitude of this event, I thought this there should have been a tremendous opportunity to get some good local exposure for the sport.  For those that were there on Fri. and Sat., were any of the major newspapers or television channels in attendance?

I still need to add some captions, but I'm too tired right now.

Pierre-Luc Hinse won the 2011 North America Championship title!
Through the help from MYTT, Pierre-Luc Hinse has recently switched to be sponsored by DONIC. This is the first time he played in a tournament with DONIC sponsorship.

I wish there are some video too.  I was only able to watch the match between Timothy Wang VS PPP, and the Women team competition.  It's really an eye opener to see the game live though, specially seeing preparation, adjustment they make before each match.  It's amazing to see how Zhang Mo lost to Ariel Hsing 0-4 in the morning, made some adjustment came back and won in the team event, and in the Championship round.

Apart from the North America cup, were any of the other events qualifiers for bigger tournaments? Or were they mainly for ratings, standings, trophies etc?  For example, when Pierre Luc Hinse won the men's singles, and Mo Zhang the women's,  will those wins count for some future tournament, or just significant in and of themselves i.e the North American champion.

Only NA Cup is used for qualification.

Don't like Yiyong Fan's playing. What the hell he did each time he missed a point! Overrated!

Posted By: jrscatman
Date Posted: 04/08/2011 at 10:07am
I agree. Not a big fan of Fan.  But I must say the guy's got game - very powerful strokes.

First match I saw - he blamed his loss on a net call by the umpire. Almost broke the table top by kicking it. Surprised the umpire didn't give him a yellow card.

Next day - he shows up to play with 2 illegal racquets and proceeds to pretend the problem is with the officials. Then he borrows someone's racquet and beats Pradhee PP with it.

But I think the US officials should require the adults players to conduct themselves in a more professional and respectful manner - especially when there are so many juniors watching these high profile matches.

For me the highlights were seeing Ariel Hsing , Lily Zhang and Pierre Luc Thierriault - play - all 3 were fantastic.

Also great a job by Mytabletennis club in hosting the event.

JRS
