I just bought a Tear Mender to replace my old glue, it is my first time using this glue substitute, but I can't seem to get the rubber to stick.  I let the blade and the rubber to dry completely to apply, but the rubber doesn't seem to stick.

Any advice?  Thanks!

It does not work like contact cement, (rubber cement)
I put mine on wet, add a little weight or in a press and wait an hour.  Smile

how long do you typically wait before applying rubbers?

I do not wait. I put them togather as soon as I can. Do not play with the glue, it starts to harden quickly and will make bumps if you keep trying to smooth it. Just put it togather when real wet and the excess will be squeezed out.

I cut 1" blocks off a section of sponge weather stripping and use it as the applicator: http://bit.ly/qzAWad

I wait until the glue has just barely turned translucent and stick it together similarly as with rubber cement.... play immediately.  Big smile

When it's squeezed out, it's a big mess.
It may destroy the rubber on the opposite side.

If it is in a press, nothing can get on the surface or the rubber. Smile

There was a post some time back ( maybe even on another forum) about Tear Mender going bad in the bottle and needing to check it if you were buying in a store that might have a low turnover rate.  I can not remember the description, but there was a definite differnece in appearance between new Tear Mender and old stuff that would not work well.

Maybe someone remembers this post.

Don't wait It dry completely, I won't stick.  I say wait for 1 and a half minute or wait until it almost dry and it work.  I used tear mender for few years.  I have no problem with it.

Does OX rubber want to curl up when you put tear mender on it? I'm trying to find a better solution for gluing OX LP rubbers with super thin base sheets. They curl like crazy with rubber cement. Is the bond strength stronger or same with tear mender?
