(Note that these figures were not considering the blade with swing movement and rubber's spin generating action. In some blades, Nexy is adopting dual speed system, but machine is lacking the ability to check the actual data during the movement. It's just neutral data of a blade without rubbers attached, and fixed on a non-moving jig.)

Meaning of Each Rating

1. Speed at low impact (or Elasticity)
> Basic elasticity or speed of blade. Higher value means higher speed/elasticity.
> 90 is the middle value. Elasticity rating of most blades is in the 80~100 range. Over 100 means super high elasticity. Under 100 means noticeably diminished elasticity.
> You may consider 80~85 = ALL+, 85~90 = OFF-, 90~95 = OFF and 95~100 = OFF. However, please note this is not an exact science.

2. Speed at high impact (or Additional Elasticity)
> This means the response of blade when player makes a hard impact.
> If this rating is close to 0%, the response of blade is regarded as linear without much variation of elasticity. If this rating is 'plus' (= bigger than 0%), the bounce of ball becomes bigger than that expected from impact input. If this rating is 'minus' (= smaller than 0%), the bounce of ball becomes smaller than that expected from impact input.
> The blades with 'plus' rating are good for performing various techniques, and they are especially good for a hard smash due to its additional rebound. The blades with a 'minus' rating are good for continuous topspin or extremely aggressive close-to-the table topspin thanks to its holding-the-ball feeling.
> Additional rebound or good holding is noticeable when this value is over +10% or under -10%.

3. Hardness
> Basic feeling of blade. Higher value means a harder feeling, and lower value means a softer feeling.
> 90 is the middle value. 90 means that the blade isn't especially hard or soft. Hardness of most blades is in the range of 80~100.
> For example, about 80~ is the typical value of many 5-ply wood blade.

4. Wing Hardness (or Relative Hardness)
> Relative feeling at blade wing when compared to the basic feeling (= hardness).
> If this rating is close to 0%, the feeling of blade is even. Players may notice that the feeling at wing is similar to basic overall feeling. If this rating is 'plus' (= bigger than 0%), the feeling at blade wing is relatively harder (or stronger) than the basic feeling. If this rating is 'minus' (= smaller than 0%), the feeling at blade wing is relatively softer (or weaker) than the basic feeling.

* note that Arche is a combination blade: the two top plies behave quite differently when applying spin (tangential strokes). On flat hits and bounces on the bare wood (as measured by the machine), the measurements are very similar.

About myself:
- Nexy Lissom ST, 83g
- Nexy Lissom ST, 84g
- Nexy Calix ST, 84g

My main blade is Lissom. I've been playing with it for about 1 year, with Xiom Vega Pro on FH and Nittaku Hi Super Drive on BH. I play a controlled offensive game with greater value on spin and ball placement than on mere speed. As you may have guessed from the rubbers, my FH is more aggressive than my BH.

Curious to read what other rubbers stick on Lissom.

OK, then I'm quoting your post for future reference. I read good stories about Outlaw. And I'm looking for a new BH rubber anyway, since Nittaku has discontinued Hi Super Drive. I have a spare sheet of Sriver EL (but I'm not keen on bty, lately) and was thinking of maybe trying Donic Coppa, but maybe I should try Outlaw, instead.

I'm making a list as soon as we reach 10 members.

For 14 dollars you really can't go wrong with outlaw even if it's not to your taste. I used outlaw on the fh before switching to h3 neo but it makes a good bh rubber as well. I'm not sure if I'll keep with outlaw in the long run as I might want something I can loop better with on the bh, but I'm not very good at looping from that wing anyway so I'm not going to worry about it until I develop that part of my game more. In the meantime outlaw is great for the bh counters I mostly do and is perfectly good for passive and aggressive serve return.

Yes, well. My first week with it was brilliant. Now it seems to be a little out of control. I switched it between blades and the tuning layer came off. Since then it's been very strange. I actually like Shark on the forehand as well, so maybe I'll use it on both wings when my orders arrive.

I was thinking something soft and predictable. Coppa X3, Vega Euro, Energy Xtra, Magna 2. Still deciding.

BW 2 rs without the tuning layer is very easy to stretch when reglue, and this rubber behave strangely when stretched.  I had to reglue it a few time to find that if I am careful enough to not stretch it, then it play very well with tons of spin.  However, because it domes so much, so it's hard not to stretch it when reglue.

BTW - what is the different between Lissom, and Lissom Aegis?  I am intertesed in these 2 blades, but not sure which one is better for control.

Posted By: arg0
Date Posted: 02/16/2012 at 6:32pm
The difference is size, and weight. Lissom is 150x156mm and average weight is 80-85g. Lissom Aegis is an oversized Lissom, about 10g heavier. Don't know the exact size, though.
Nexy described Aegis in his thread "Nexy designer's diary", as follows:
Lissom Aegis is good for traditional defender or modern defender.
It's very comfortable from away, and makes immense power shot away from the table, for chopping and aslo for loopiong.
But if has small vibration with OX close to the table, as ikarus or labyrinthos.
So, I think this blade is good for chopper, with pimple out rubbers together with sponge.
The structure of Lissom Aegis is the same with Lissom, but it has different handle.
Because I changed the sweet spot for bigger size.

I've been playing with red 2mm Vega Pro on the forehand and black 2mm Vega Europe on the backhand; of the Calix, this week.

Vega Europe would work on the forehand; if you prefer a softer rubber on that wing; but it does have a lower throw than Vega Pro.

It is a touch bouncy in the short game, so one needs to be careful when pushing, but looping - especially brush looping and counterlooping is nothing but amazing.

Calix (which I had switched to from Xiom V1) provides a lot of dwell time and very nice feedback.

Throw me into the clan mix with an active Nexy Spartacus (Calibra LT/XP 2008 Super Power) and a Calix (2 old wore out T05s) into the mix. The rest of my Nexy blades did not survive my combat environment or I passed them along for others to try out.

Spartacus is a linear OFF- thin carbon control blade for players wanting a consistant OFF- class (that is OFF MINUS) blade that is more oriented towards a spin game with the possibility to hit like Lissom, but harder. Blade rewards bang impact. Allows huge spin on brush strokes and also on those strokes hitting through the ball.

Calix is multi-geared with a higher top end. Blade is thinner, but stiff enough on the low end. Different impacts produce different results. Some players like this for a control short touch and kick on the top end. Blade looks a ton better than Spartacus, which is plain-Jane. That is OK with me, we cover our blades with rubber anywayz. Calix also can wrap the ball with the high-speed impact and the top end is clearly faster. I like how the ST blade feels in my hand with Calix, and I do not say that about a lot of blades.

arg0, Spatacus, while a totally different feel and constuction, is essentially a blade that does the same things well (spin, control, wrapping the ball) but is a bit stiffer and a level faster at a linear rate. I really need to put a good new FH rubber on Calix to give it some proper attention to learn it better, I have been tossing on used up Tenergies and that is not enough justice.

My TBS cracked several times (I repaired each time) and i was  in the market for a backup blade & lucky enough to get a chance to go to the TAK9.com / Nexy HQ in SE Seoul. I asked the staff for a gazillion TT apperal and I also bought a Nexy Oscar with new Tibhar Aurus rubbers.

When I had a chance to test a ST version of Oscar 1.5 years ago, I liked it a lot with T05 on FH, but the blade at that time was too fast for me. Not only was the top end and most strokes too fast, the ball came off the bat a little earlier than I wanted. (Maybe that is why I liked Lissom & Spartacus so much, both those blades have a lot of dwell) After training another 1.5 years under a good Korean coach, I thought I could handle the Oscar properly. I was wrong. Oscar is still to fast for me. I traded it to a KFTTC member for a beat up Primorac Carbon, which ironically is every bit a fast as Oscar in each stroke, but there is a bit more dwell to make spin on loops.

After V2.0 experience with Oscar, I would say it can make an excellent blade for those who like to hit through everything. These players are counter drivers, FH drivers/smashers, and blocker/counterdrivers. Also, the prototypical LP OX player here would love this blade. The OX LP players BH punch with their OX LP on a very fast and stiff blade (Many use Gergely or Schlager Carbon). They like to place a semi-soft control rubber on FH to pulverise skull-drug kill any loose ball that comes to their FH. It makes me look like I am not very macho to quickly relize a blade is too fast for me, but it is what it is. Oscar is a great blade for the playing styles that require more solid contact at impact kind of strokes. Unfortunately, I do not fit into that pattern very well. I like to loop heavy before i pound the ball. I loved its blocking power though:)

Will you help me to run it?
You can do it as the same with Calix.

Just let me have 10 testers.

Regarding the basic information, you can check my designer's diary.
Among 10 blades, one is yours.
I'm really thankful for your help, and I hope you will like AMAZON, too.
I'm now playing with Amazon, too.
Pretty interesting.
You will know the value over time.
It becomes better and better while you play.

Oscar is a great blade for the playing styles that require more solid contact at impact kind of strokes. Unfortunately, I do not fit into that pattern very well. I like to loop heavy before i pound the ball. I loved its blocking power though:)

I realize that this post is old but I figured I would chime in. The Oscar plays very much like a slightly stiffer/faster TBS. I agree that the ball feels like it leaves the blade very early. No matter how hard I would hit the ball I never felt it flex. It would be good for someone coming off of a really stiff blade like a t5000. Just my 2 cents

Ironically, Delgado, I got to play in an elite 2 player team tourney this weekend that had prize money blood drawing out all the TT sharks, many 2400+ players and a small pile of 2500+ ringers.

I got to meet 2 other Nexy sponsored players. One is a cute female inverted/sponged LP chopper. Est 2100 USATT. I lost to her 1-2 (best of 3) not exactly on top of my game. Too many net/out or other shots not quite going in. Just wasn't my day, even though our team advanced. Maybe I post a pic of this sponsored player along with the semi-pro ringer who Nexy sponsors.

The ironic part is she used the OSCAR blade and I have to say it suited her style of play very well. She was not afraid to HIT hard, which is very typical of the female Korean LP player.

As self-proclaimed founder of the Nexy Clan, I feel I have to do something to advertise Nexy. I've therefore decided to take advantage of Nexy's current http://mytabletennis.net/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=45867&PID=615213&title=official-calix-review-thread#615213 - special offer on Calix , to get myself another Calix and offer one for free testing to forum members that are interested. Well, almost for free, you'll have to pay for traceable shipping one way.

The rules are that anybody who wants to test Calix sends me a PM with his real name and address (I will not disclose this info, read below). To qualify, you must have been a forum member for at least three months and have a minimum of 100 posts.

I'll make a list of screen names and countries and publish it here: I won't publish real names or adresses. I'll then ship my Calix to the first person on the list. After testing it, he/she has to write his/her impressions on the http://mytabletennis.net/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=45867 - official Calix review thread . A few short statements will suffice, if you don't feel up to writing a full review. After that, he/she gets in contact with the next person in the list and ships the blade to him/her.

To avoid loosing the blade, shipping must be traceable. The sender pays for shipping costs. The last person in the list ships the blade back to me.

As traceable intercontinental shipping is expensive, I'll run this experiment in Europe first. Depending on interest, other continents may follow.

Calix is not a strong blade.
Please, seal it before you attach rubbers.
It's thin and light, so you can seal it without being bothered about weight.

Not much interest in testing Calix, apparently. I also realise that probably few players are based in Europe.

Since I recently bought a second Calix, I've decided to sell one. It's a Nexy Calix ST, 85g, used a few times, no dings/dents/damages whatsoever. Comes in original box. Have a look at the reviews http://mytabletennis.net/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=45867&PN=1&title=official-calix-review-thread - here .
I'll let it go at Nexy's recent special offer price, €55 / $70 plus shipping. A new one is $150, so it's a steal.

I'm posting this here to give the first option to those who follow this topic. If nobody reacts, I'll post it in the FS section in a few days.

Update: sold! Calix is going to Canada.

So as your opinion, Qabod is better than Calix II and better than Calix?

Do you think the thickness of Calix (5mm) and Calix II (5.4mm) will change the looping type?

As I know, that the thinner blade will be more flexible, and will good for the harder rubber. I play H3 Neo as FH, so that's why I buy Calix.

Maybe, you will change my opinion. I'm searching the information of Qabod too.

Professor in France, you have to understand that I am a regular and forever user of Timo Boll Spirit (and now ALC). None of the blades Nexy has made are like a TBS, but then what blade is like a TBS? Few. Calix is a different animal and slower than TBS with its own characteristics. Calix II was MUCH more closer to the speed of TBS, but again, it has its own properties. Calix is a great blade. I liked Calix II even more as it played closer in speed to a TBS. I didn't have to change much of my game to play with Calix II. Even the BH wing, the ball was slower coming off the bat, which helps BH short pushing. The prototype of Qabod that I played with on a visit to Nexy HQ, that REALLY got my interest going. The prototype was equipped with Calibra LT and I forget the BH rubber, but MAN, that blade was REAL close to TBS performance on looping and re-looping. Great feel, great speed, great control, but blade is thinner of course and is obviously not a TBS.

Thickness of a blade is a big factor in loop-ability, but not the only consideration. it is possible to make a relatively stiff blade that will flex enough with a big impact like Calix.

As for what ever blade being good with hard rubber, I agree the stiff blades are good for a hard rubber. Aurus is a very hard rubber in its regular version and it is my FH rubber of choice. Aurus on a TBS is great, so is Aurus on a Calix or Calix II. What is required to make good spin and control on looping with a hard sponged rubber like Aurus is high racket speed at impact using the whole body.

I forsee the Qabod to be really good with Aurus. If the prototype resembles the future release of the Qabod, then a Qabod/Aurus/BH rubber of choice will shape up to be one sweet setup.

A couple months ago was my hit with the Qabod and it was a few months from being finalized for production. maybe we see it in a while. Pr. Moon will prolly make an update sometime. I will likely not make another visit to his HQ until September.

That's often a matter of personal choice, as the many threads about sealing show.
Personally, I always seal blades very lightly before using them, especially if the top layer is thin, and I think that all who use water-based glue should do.

There's one blade for which I know for sure: Nexy advised me to seal Calix before using it.

I just picked up the Calix II from a forum member in a trade, so I haven't tried it yet. Compared to the V-14 the spartacus has a softer feel and more flexible than the V-14. The V-14 is a hair faster. I'm a bit of a blade collector so I have lots of blades I havn't tried, but plan to in the future. I actually havn't played much with any of my Nexy Blades. But, the Lissom with Bluefire M2 on both sides is a spin machine! Looking forward to the Calix II, it's a beautiful blade!

Lissom is indeed a spin machine. That's why I still favour it over faster but stiffer blades.
If you like fast blades, Calix II is a good upgrade from Lissom: faster when hitting hard (OFF-/OFF speed, while Lissom is ALL+/OFF-), but still plenty of dwell time for creating spin, and a bit stiffer than Calix, who was a bit too thin for my taste. You should try Calix II !

BTW, in case Calix II is still too slow, then Qabod is the way to go. :-)

Burnt Kiri in the middle of the Arirang. Burnt Ayous in the Peter pan.

Hinoki-Aramid-Ayous-burnt Kiri

and Ash-Ayous-burnt Ayous , could be wrong, probably not though. Both should have the potential to play well. It will be interesting to see if burning the Kiri produces a better feel than Kiri normally has (dead)

@Nexy, when will the Arirang be available?,

By the way, what's the reason for choosing aramid carbon instead of zylon?
With the well known ZLx blades from BTY and the new Xiom Hayabusa blades with zylon, it would be understandable you would consider using zylon.

Sorry for my interruption.
I think it would be better to reply from my own perspective, than toss my information through "nexy.com".

This is OSCAR, and the designer of nexy blades.

Regarding your inquiry, I can simply put this way.

There are several brands who wants to upgrade their price and image by releasing new materials.
As for me, and as for NEXY, I tend to focus on making good blades, and don't care much about new materials.

NEXY wants to be unique, and NEXY will not follow other brands, by adopting currenlty popular materials.
People might think NEXY is little bit behind, but that's not true, because NEXY always finds something new where other brands did not see yet.
I'd rather say that NEXY is searching something further beyond, where other brands did not study enough.

NEXY can use those new materials, when NEXY is sure that nexy can release something very different and new from those other brands' blades.
So, it will take some time more that other brands do, if such a case really happen.
There are many Chinese brands who just adopt the same surface wood STIGA is making, or just adopting new artificial materials what Butterfly newly uses.
But that will not happen with NEXY.

NEXY's strong points relys on studying, not copying.
Therefore, NEXY will adopt any new material when nexy is fully prepared to create something very different and new.
Please, understand this point.

By the way, aramid carbon, arylate carbon, ZLC, UD carbon... all those materials are not much different in their basic functions.
And we do know what makes different among them.
So, NEXY will carefully check all those materials, with all new productions.
But the answer will not be about following what other brands are using.
Sooner or later, you will know why nexy choose what material.

Nexy always pay more attention to be uqniue, than to be competitive.
And that never fails to make NEXY competitive also.

I will share more about those new blades with my diary thread.
Just wait a little more.
It will come several months later, and I want to keep my pace with releasing informations.

First, I will release PeterPan, so I will share more information about it,
and INCA will come out later,
then Arirang will come at the end.

So, the official information of Arirang will come maybe later than other two blades.

By the way, I will give some small informations about Arirang.

Inca and Arirang are sharing very similiar features.
But Arirang has deeper touch than Inca.
Inca is 5 ply blade with two aramid carbon layers,
but Arirang has one more layer between Hinoki surface and aramid carbon layer.

Arirang is a song name of Korean old folk song.
It has deep sorrow in the lyrics, and the composition of the blade symbolize the meaning of the lyrics, by limiting the impact touch of the ball deeper inside.

When I design a blade, I carefully decide on what depth I will put the touch of the impact.
And regarding Arirang, I intentionally located it deeper than any other Nexy's blades, because that's what Arirang has in itself.

So, the feeling is oppressed, not to be prominant.

The song is saying that...

I will let you leave me, and wish a farewell, if you want to leave me.
But on the way to somewhere from me, while you walk on mountain valleys,
you will get hurt on your legs.

So, this song is showing a lady who is weeping at the news of her lover's leaving her,
and she only wishes good luck to him,
but insdie her deeply hurt mind,
she is praying that he might fall and get hurt on his legs.

This may seem humorous for other country people's eyes,
but from Korean people, we can feel the deep bitterness from one woman,
who can not do anything but wishing this bad luck,
when her love tells that he would leave her.

And the sorrow, based on frustration, should be the one character I need to show with ARIRANG blade.
I wish you would love this feature.

Thank you.

Hmmm. I wonder what the layer is between the hinoki and aramid in the Arirang? Can't see much in the pictures above. As ever, nexy design is thrilling and fascinating in equal measure. Bring on the next wave!

Going to be reunited with a Spartacus soon. Should never have sold my first one. Most fun I ever had in a blade.

Why did you sell it?

Why did you sell it?

I wanted to spend some time with an all wood blade. I took it a bit far by selling every one of my carbon blades. The only one I miss is the Spart, so very happy to pick another up.

That's interesting: in what respect is Spartacus better than the other carbon blades you do not miss?
Any other Nexy carbon blades among those?

A combination of factors really. Hinoki top, light weight, great sound with soft rubbers (crrrrrrrrack!), not too fast but with great sweet spot and medium throw. On reflection, these are the qualities I've been looking for over the past few months. Got back into carbon, but struggling for the best fit.

In terms of Nexy blades, I have Calix 2 and Qabod here, with Spart and Oscar (hopefully!) on the way. Qabod is too fast for me, TBH. Calix 2 is a great weapon, it's almost surgical. But it doesn't feel "alive" to me, like I remember the Spart. Calix 2 is a fantastic go-to blade, but I remember Spart having a special feeling with my over-the-table shots which I now miss.

I'm basically going through the hinoki carbon options at the moment. Spart, Oscar, Regundo, custom BBC are on the list.

AndySmith,
thanks for the detailed analysis. I also just received an Oscar, which I plan to compare with Calix II, although I always struggled to play my game with composite blades.
I already compared Qabod to Calix II, and Qabod was to fast for me. Now, Oscar has that fresh smell of Kiso Hinoki that I love, however, from a quick bounce test, it seems stiffer than Calix II. Well, guess I'll figure out when I test them.

I'm expecting Oscar to be faster in the lower gears than Calix 2, probably the same speed in the higher gears, so more linear overall. The crucial thing for me is how soft it is, so we shall see.

Yup....you will like the Spartacus I think GD.   I will be interested to see how you compare it to your Andro blade with the composite close to the core.

Andy....I somehow knew you would miss the Spartacus knowing what blades you used and changed for recently.  After playing with a Spartacus for a few club sessions....it is easily the best blade for me that I have tried.  I like how you say it feels "alive", that describes it well with other words like, light, snappy, and big sweet spot.  The blade just does everything very well for me.  Going from blades that are 87 to 91 grams to the 80g Spartacus......NICE!

Yup - I remember the fast hand speed.  And when you hit a sweet shot and you hear that gunshot - BOOM!  Hilarious.

Interesting. how is it's balance with heavier, modern rubbers given that it is light & a bit larger than normal (158x151)?

I had a light-ish setup last time out, but it did feel fine. Will be trying BF M3 and T80 this time round, so we will see.

AndySmith,
looking forward to a comparison of Spartacus vs Calix II and Oscar, once you get them.
Guess Spartacus will be more linear than Calix II, as you say, and, regarding speed, Calix II < Spartacus < Oscar.

I need to compare side by side, but this looks ok to me. The one niggle might be that the Spartacus is definitely bouncier in the low gears than Calix II, but Calix II has a faster top end with bigger flex. Oscar will probably be faster in all areas, but I'll try not to prejudge that.

I think my cut rubbers are about 44 or 45g each.  They feel extremely balanced on the Spartacus at 80g.  I wonder what the BF M3 in 2.0mm on both sides would be like.   Andy what is the weight of your BF M3....which thickness do you have?

Ooops, forgot about this. Was busy getting mashed in other threads.

I'm using M3 max, comes in at about 48g cut, T80 slightly heavier I think. Could be interesting...

In terms of speed, Oscar is clearly the fastest. About same speed as Qabod, but ball leaves bat sooner.

Gotta love the control of Calix II and Spartacus.
