I thought it would be worthwhile to make a list of which balls are made by which of the major manufacturers. I believe at this point in time, these are the only manufacturers of plastic balls, so every brand that releases a ball must be made by one of these:
Double Happiness / DHS (China), Double Fish(China), Xushaofa (China), Nittaku (Japan), Weener (Germany).
If you know who makes the balls of other brands, or have corrections to this list, please post so that I can add them in.

Double Happiness / DHS
DHS

Double Fish
Double Fish
TSP

Xushaofa
Xushaofa
Yinhe
Palio
Hanno
Nexy
Stag
Xiom

Nittaku (Japan)
Nittaku Premium

Weener

I think the German brands (Donic, Andro, Joola, etc) use DHS brands, but I've not heard anything official.

Can anyone add anything to this?

Weener does make balls, right, but ... http://www.wppg.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/WEENER-balls11.jpg" rel="nofollow - http://www.wppg.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/WEENER-balls11.jpg

It seems they already have one out (a fellow in Australia had some).  It is made in China and seamed, so presumably DHS or DF.  My hopes are pretty low unless they have somehow managed to make some change in their formulation between now and June that allows these balls to actually bounce at a normal height.  I have been playing with Nittaku Premium Japan 40+ since I received them and before that had been using XSF balls.  Tonight just to compare again we pulled out a Nittaku SHA (a Chinese seamed polyball) to try it again.  It was as appalling an experience as ever.  So I can't see any reason to be very optimistic about Butterfly, except for the faint hope that they made some progress on developing a ball that might actually meet ITTF requirements for bounce height and weight -- and that Btfly will have more exacting quality control standards for the balls they sell.

I'm 95% certain that Joola and DHS are the same ball and think that Stiga, Donic, Tibhar etc. are all in the same boat with possible differences in Quality Control.  My guess is that Butterfly is too, but that is still yet to be determined.  Kinson is supposedly another DFish ball rebranded.

BEWARE OF THE CRAPPY BALLS FROM JUNE2014.

a sporting goods individual merchant, citizen of Russia's Far Eeast region, have recently took a business trip to DHS Shanghai warehouse in early September this year, for making a better/cheaper bargain of some table tennis items.
All brands of seamed plastic balls are there for sale, fairly cheap price.,, other than Kinson, DF, TSP and Joola.

The four brands missed are made in Double Fish, Guangzhou ball plant.

ONLY two manufactories are now engaged into seamed baLL industry. namely Shanghai DHS and DF Guangzhou plants.
The later products (August, September) is of advance quality to the early releases (June).

PS// Happy shopping to you, dear Friends. Do mind the production codes you have got on the boxes. The early balls release is a crap,

I think you're right too... it just seems hard to get confirmation.

I didn't think the Nittaku SHA were that bad at all... it was the DHS that stood out more to me.

The problem is that when you shop on line you are at the mercy of what the vendor sells you.  All of the Chinese made seamed balls I have gotten were from that month (June) and they have been truly awful, but this was true for both the DF and DHS made products,  including DHS, Joola, DF, Nittaku SHA, Donic, Stiga, and TSP (the ones I have tried, probably have forgotten a few).  On many of my previous reviews of balls I have been careful to specify month of manufacture because I have had that in the back of my mind.  So I truly hope that what you say is correct, that the more recently ones are better.  It seems plausible.  Perhaps that is why Butterfly has not released their ball until now?  But I will believe it when I see it because they have a long way to go to make those balls acceptable, the June balls are far from meeting the ITTF standards that will exist in 2016.

The Nittaku Premium Japan 40+ is a vastly superior product, but they seem to have issues maintaining production.  (Yesterday after playing a few matches with a Nittaku Premium we took a Nittaku SHA and just hit a few balls to compare.  It is unbelievable how bad the Nittaku SHA is in comparison, it is immediately obvious).

XSF ball is not perfect but I still think it provides a much more normal quality of play than really crappy seamed balls that don't really bounce properly.

Fortunately, I still have yet to break one of my Nittaku Premiums (which is a good thing because even one that is quite worn will be better than any other plastic ball and I don't know when I will be able to get more of them).  The reports of their durability issues were ------ wrong.

*Haggis, I have used a bunch of each (all from the month of June) and there is absolutely no discernible difference between a Nittaku SHA and a DHS.  They are the same ball with all of the same problems, which are especially obvious for loopers.  I will not be purchasing any more of them until there is some change in their playing properties.  When was your Nittaku SHA made?

Even though I have had more experiences with DHS polyballs than Nittaku SHA, I feel the DHS has serious quality control issues (selling cr@p non-round balls on purpose).  Most of the SHA my members brought to club are round, but not the DHS.  However, we did encounter one SHA that was obviously wobbly.  They bounce very similar.  I dislike them both.
