Brief description is below: They said that ZJK and ML were seeded into the next round and that FZD was seeded as well, but instructed to play to give him more experience. Initially, it was supposed to be top 4 after FZD and then 1 wild card were allowed to move on, but it seems that they have made it top 3 after FZD and 2 wild cards - some suspect it was because Hao Shuai qualified under the original rules. One word "Power"...It is a crime players like Cheng Jingqi and Liu Jikang are in there. They never did anything. At least Ma Te is a chopper and provide some insights. Zhang Chao would have a winning record in there. Or Xu ChenHao for that matter, Zhao Zihao clearly has a bigger upside.

That's the rumor, it's not necessarily true. On ttdaily, the scoop is that Zhang Jike had to attend the CCTV Sports Personality Award Ceremony and only arrived this morning. Ma Long vs. Liang Jingkun Xu Xin vs. Fan Zhendong Fan Zhendong should win this stage - his form from the first stage points to amazing things. If Ma Long does win, it's a good sign for his competitiveness this year.

Watched this live last night on CCTV-5. FZD's backhand was so obviously superior and dominated ML's to the extent ML had trouble getting to switch to use his forehand. And when ML went down the line, FZD curled the ball beautifully crosscourt into the forehand corner for a winner. If FZD plays like this, he's going to be world champion! Sandiway

Would be nice to see his backhand matchup with ZJK's. But the result in the previous round of trials (beating everyone except Hao Shuai, who only won 3-2 in a tight fifth) already pointed towards special things. It seems to me that barring luck or some radical backhand work in a closed training session with Wang Hao (unlikely to happen given the allegiances) or Dima (unlikely for other reasons), Ma Long's window has closed because this is like his 2nd or 3rd consecutive convincing loss to FZD after barely beating him in the previous 2 matches before that. ------------- https://youtu.be/jhO4K_yFhh8?t=115" rel="nofollow - I like putting heavy topspin on the ball... It seems that FZD has improved a lot over the last several months. No one seems to be able to stop him except maybe ZJK. I agree that ML's window is closed as he is struggling to change his style at the moment. That is just not good for the senior player like him. On the other hand, ZJK seems to always have the capability to figure his chinese opponents out. If majority opinion becomes that ML's window has closed, I will put my money on him. He is a machine and if people become to dismiss him it will really relieve him from the pressure that has been crushing him. Also, in a big tournament XX still has advantage over FZD in my opinion. XX has become a little like ZJK.. messing around too much, almost like on purpose. I seriously believe that nobody wants to start the next WTTC as the favorite. I know for sure ZJK and ML don't want that, looks like XX doesn't want it either, not sure about FZD only. |

There are two things that may affect the WTTC slightly. The first is the lack of coaching at ITTF events. The second is that this event is in China and being at home should help both Ma Long and FZD. I am getting worried about ML, actually. Loosing to FZD and barely pulling off against LJK. But then, its just the Trials so will see what happens on the stage.
