USA Women won both their matches today 3-0

Yes the Canadian team both men and women dont' have the needed match experience with some of their players but i'm hoping they do well as a team, the experience gained here will help towards building the future.

Anqi will be taking the reigns from Mo and there are quite a few to fill the rest of the team, Pierre-Luc will be taking the reigns from Eugene and like the women the rest of the team will be filled from the pool.

Money (lack of), politics (just talk) are the deciding factor in TT, there is no denying the fact of the matter.

Canadians don't support their athletes like the Americans unfortunately...i take one look at say for example an ICCC fund raiser and look at any major club on this side and see NOTHING with a BIG FAT "0" and that is the reality ...we do have a few individuals who have tried or were willing to rally similar but only to have deaf ears and blind eyes walk the other way ...we have the will but  the charitable karma is lacking for most sports ...it's basically everyman/woman for him/herself  but that's for another thread not here...yay TEAM USA ;)

Was there for the 5pm session. Great setup. Packed by 5:30pm.  Ok, ok, music was loud. Even my non-table tennis friends said they couldn't hear the introductions of players. But it was better selection of music than from North America Cup 2 months ago.

One Women's match ran past 7:00pm - which was when Men's was supposed to start. Adriana Diaz won it for Puerto Rico in the 5th game of deciding match.

Many people left around 7pm. Wonder why ?

Men's matches ended after 10pm. I left around 9:45pm after Canada lost.

I'll let others comment about the play.

No live streaming media coverage, press photographers move around different events so time is alotted as per their editors. You can bet the TTCAN Press Officer will try his best to provide as many images and videos as he can for both ITTF and TTCAN. Media is controlled wholly by PanAm.

If nobody makes anything, there will be nothing

Send the following message to CBC sports:  if you don't make  live stream in the table tennis, let the ITTF make (it)

So far ITTF has left the cost and production of such streams to the events, PanAm is the organizers of this event PanAm does not payout to media, they accept payments though ;)

Who are the sponsors for this tournament - they must be loving it. 1000 spectators in the arena as the total audience!

Butterfly streamed the North American Championships from the same location couple of months ago!

Re: sponsors.  Those tables they're using ?  Never heard of the company ?

Way more than 1000 spectators. Really a bonanza for TT in the GTA.

Noticed the Canadian Men's players put tape on their shoes to cover the Butterfly logo ?

Eugene Wang not playing with Viscaria, but a different Butterfly blade ?

Did the stands change from Badminton? I believe they mentioned in one of the Badminton articles the capacity for the Markham location was 1000. If they added more seating you might be right, if not I would think 1000 is the max.

Too bad Butterfly didn't sponsor - they would have streamed it! I guess this new company doesn't know how TT work! Some dropped the ball - plastic or otherwise!

Pan Am and Olympics have different (complicated) sponsorship situation, you can't compare it to other TT events. I guess the same applies to video rights.

The stands are the same as Badminton last week. That 1000 figure you read in a Bad article. It may have been misquoted, or is an old figure before construction was completed. What I saw for badminton last week and table tennis sunday at 5pm session was easliy 1500+.  These crowds were much larger than the large lecture halls filled at York University - they hold about 1200

Further research shows the max capacity for Badminton/Table Tennis to be 2000. With an additional 1600 for Water Polo.

BTW: Which entrance did you go through to get to the seats? I want to be on the seat side rather than the bench seating side.

Thanks - oh yeah music wasn't too loud at the bleacher side. Darn - will have to decide in the morning - maybe I'll bring ear plugs.
Both Canadian teams have tough opponents. Are you going to be there?

BTW: the photos from ITTF are really good. Is that your equipment?

You did well with your research. The section reserved for players family, friends, athletes was sparse. So subtract that from 2000, comes close to my estimate of 1500+.  I used to do that kind of thing in a previous life.

With the loud music, they oughta have cheerleaders like in the Asian/Euro tournaments. That'll sell tickets and get the kids into it  Tongue

Sit up against the yellow media desk section A is that center section, tables 1&2 are in the center.

I might try and drop in another session  just to pick up the TT logo shirt and some other stuff.

*yes it is.

I took a little bit of images on the first day of singles in the afternoon session, i missed Eugene and Tsuboi because i forgot to take my memory card so i had to stop off at a local camera store and then the Ticket network went down for  about 30 minutes after 4pm when the afternoon session started ...i was trying to rally the crowd to storm the gates :)
Anyhow i want to say this first before i head to bed (so tired)

First Alicia WON after coming so close in the morning rounds...so proud of her, secondly i'm officially now a big fan of Pierre-Luc, he had just won and was itting with his parents girlfriend and coach upon request he  personally came all the way to the other side of the arena to give this young boy and his sister a signed ball and a players pin, the ones only the players have for trading ....the kids were just speechless and i did not expect it ...i didn't even take a photo :p

I'll add later to the album, i'm too tired to sort and process the card now...soooo tired ...must be getting old :)

I don't know about the morning but the afternoon had a LOT od people :O

That PLT what a nice guy, eh?!!!  Clap   Who knows, these kids just might get inspired & take up table tennis seriously, if they haven't already done so. It's these small gestures by our Canadian Team players that go a long long way to promoting our great sport of Table Tennis.

As I said yesterday, "Do it for the Kids"

GO CANADA GO!!!

Nice photos of the finals.
I noticed the Joola on the front of the USA Womens team is not covered up. Previously other TT companies players were putting tape over the brand names. Is the restriction waved during the finals?

Also the 1st photo - selfie by the Brazilian player has to be the best selfie ever!

Yes, Pierre-Luc is very nice gentleman and a scholar (extremely good student) .... that maybe his problem. "takethat" once told me if you want to be a champion you need to be 'jerk' - he used different term which ends with hole!

Actually, if you that lens and camera - it's very hard to take a bad photo. At Tennis, they won't let you bring in the big camera and lens unless you have a media pass. Apparently high quality photos were showing up on internet before the customers of the photographers can publish them.
