Hey NEXY fans, you may have read about Rubicon, the latest blade from NEXY: http://www.mytabletennis.net/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=35293&PID=958239#958239" rel="nofollow - here is the announcement.
http://nexy.com/tabletennis/en/blade/115-rubicon.html" rel="nofollow - More pictures and information in the nexy.com store.
Oscar (user http://mytabletennis.net/forum/member_profile.asp?PF=21057&FID=24" rel="nofollow - Nexy in this forum), is offering a free Rubicon blade (value $120) to 10 players in this forum that are willing to test and review the blade. Here is the deal:
- 5 Rubicon blades will be given to "qualified testers".
- 5 Rubicon blades will be given to "lucky testers".
Qualified testers need to have a sound history of reviewing table tennis equipment. You can apply by posting in this thread (NOT by PM to me!) and adding a few words explaining your experience in reviewing table tennis equipment and one or more links to reviews you wrote. Preference goes to testers that understand the history of Nexy and can put the blade in perspective, so please specify how you plan to review the blade and to what you would compare it. Qualified testers will be chosen by Oscar and myself. Deadline for applying as qualified tester is December 28, 12:00 GMT (that's noon).
Lucky testers will be decided by lot. Any forum user may apply as lucky tester. You can apply by posting in this thread (NOT by PM to me!) and adding a number between 12 and 4445. To win, you must be among the 5 users that come closest to the number resulting from the concatenation of the FIRST two numbers of the German Lotto "6aus49" of the December 31, 2016, draw. A few examples: each number drawn is between 1 and 49 and numbers are displayed in ascending order, so if the first two numbers are "3" and "24", the winning number is 324; if the first two numbers are "12" and "45", the winning number is 1245. The draw is at 19:25 German time. Deadline for applying as lucky tester is December 31, 12:00 GMT (that's noon). If your post was modified, it's the "last modified" date that counts. In case of draw, the user having a post with earlier posting/last modified date wins. This may sound complicated, but we needed to find a random number
generation mechanism that is transparent and tamper-proof. The results
of the draw will be visible https://www.lotto.de/de/ergebnisse/lotto-6aus49/archiv.html" rel="nofollow - here (in German) and http://www.lotto.net/german-lotto/results" rel="nofollow - here
(in English). In case of conflict, the German results are official. In
case that for any reason there is no draw on December 31, the numbers of
the subsequent draw will be used.
You are free to apply both as qualified and lucky tester. For fairness, we will try to announce qualified testers before the draw on December 31, but no guarantee. Selected testers (both qualified and lucky) are expected to order any item (even small) from the http://nexy.com/tabletennis/en/" rel="nofollow - Nexy Tabletennis store and pay shipping costs to their location (likely about 20$). On top, they will get a free Rubicon blade. Testers will be able to select handle shape and preferred weight of the blade.
In exchange for the free blade, testers are expected to test the blade for at least a few training sessions and to post a fair review of the blade in this forum.
Selected testers will be announced here and receive detailed instructions about how to proceed by PM.
If you have questions, please post them publicly in this thread. Thanks and good luck!

As a long-time fan of Nexy and their approach to equipment development, I'd love to give Rubicon a try as a qualified reviewer. I've reviewed a fair amount of stuff in the past.

I would like to be considered as a qualified tester of the Nexy Rubicon blade and Karis M/M+ rubbers. I have previously tested the Nexy Zealot ( http://mytabletennis.net/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=73674&KW=zealot&PID=906953&title=patricks-nexy-zealot-review#906953" rel="nofollow - here ) and have reviewed many rubbers for tabletennis11.com on their blog ( http://blog.tabletennis11.com/" rel="nofollow - here ), e.g., the http://blog.tabletennis11.com/tibhar-evolution-series-table-tennis-rubbers-review" rel="nofollow - Evolution series or the http://blog.tabletennis11.com/dhs-hurricane3-neo-3-50-provincial-review" rel="nofollow - DHS H3 rubbers.

I've reviewed the Nexy Olam last year and also a few other interesting blades and rubbers in the forum. I have a zealot on hand for a few months now. Great blade and good balance but I have not written yet my review on the blade. I'm still on the EJ mode trying to find the right rubber to suit my style of play.
so far I have tried on the blade the following rubbers Tibhar MX P Xiom vega euro DF Xiom omega v asia adidas tenzone ultra zf donic acuda blue p1
these are good rubbers on the zealot but I feel there is something missing...but it is just probably me...
I would like to apply both as a tester or a lucky one # 1007
thanks.

I would like to give Rubicon a thorough test drive and write a review. I've been playing exclusively with Nexy blades for over two years, and provided brief reviews and occasional comments on them on this forum. The blades are have used include: Kanaph Actium (Tibhar/Nexy) Lissom Oversize Lissom Regular Calix II (currently using)
Also, I'm currently playing with Nexy rubber -> Karis M+ on FH and Karis M on BH, so my test drive would be with all-Nexy gear.

I really like the low weight of Rubicon. I also haven't reviewed a blade in a while - since I have been using BBC blades only for several years now.
So I will try and get a qualified slot. I have reviewed quite a few Nexy blades before.

Long time tester but been out with an injury for a while and thought I could'nt play ever again up till now. Wanted to pick up tabletennis and this forum again because of that and what do I see :) A chance to test a nexy once more. Back to testing again this year. tested spartacus, calix 1 and 2,lissom and quabod for mister nexy back in the days. And ofcourse many blades from other brands like nittaku. butterfly, Xiom, Donic and more and tested lots of rubbers to. Play tabletennis for more then 20 years and would love to pick up the reviewing again with the rubicon.
Have a good new year you all.

Hi all, thanks for participating. Sorry for being late, I've been away from the Internet for a few days...
The numbers of the German Lotto "6aus49" draw of December 31, 2016 were: 27 29 37 42 45 47. Thus, the five lucky testers will be those closest to 2729 for Rubicon and 4547 for Karis. I will announce the winners soon, tonight or tomorrow!
For now, I wish you all the best for 2017!

Very very interesting point Fatt!!!!! But as long as members choose their number from 12 to 4455 will be qualify for the contest. I also believe that luck played a big roll in here, since the draw could go small, middle or late in numbers plus need to be the 5 closest...

I didn't win, so this has no bearing on my choice, but I don't think valid number selection should matter, personally. I've never played lotto in my life and have no idea how it works haha. I just guessed a number in the range and hoped for the best. Other people probably did the same.

Hi fatt, thanks for the long post. I will do my math and compare it to yours.
In
any case, I had thought about numbers that can never be exact winning numbers before writing the instructions, and chose not to complicate the rules. My rules did not require posting numbers that could be exact winning numbers, so all guesses "make sense" and I see no "lack of attention to the rules". The winners are those whose guess was closest to the concatenation of the drawn numbers, regardless of whether the number they chose could have resulted exactly from the drawn numbers.
An
example: if the first number drawn was 20, then the second number would
obviously have been at least 21, so 2019 could never have been an exact
guess, and even less so 201. However, if the first two numbers had been
20 and 21, the number to guess would have been 2021, and both 2019 and
201 would have won over, say, 4546, which could have been an exact guess
in case the first two numbers drawn had been 45 and 46.
Hope that clarifies.

Sure, not being a native English speaker/writer, just let me know if my rules could have been interpreted differently. In any case, I am choosing the broadest reasonable interpretation and not going to disqualify any entry...

LOL I used the impossible 1849 because it's my highest rating. I never win anything despite entering every contest on offer, so I wasn't too worried about the rules. And my assumption was correct again. What fatt calls lack of attention to the rules I call time optimization.

@BRS: ...and it's not even lack of attention, as there was no such rule!
@fatt: sure, you're welcome! An independent review of the result is always useful!

In your original post I think you make a mistake: if the numbers are 1-49 then the lucky number will be between 12 and 4849 (not 4445). |
It's no longer relevant, but: if all the highest numbers had been drawn, the combination would have been 44 45 46 47 48 49. The concatenation of the first two numbers would have been 4445. In the case of Karis, the last two numbers were considered, so the upper limit was 4849. Save

Oh, that`s a different interpration to mine. I thought, you meant the first two numbers that are fallen done at this evening and not the two lowest numbers from the 6.

The hour is too late here in Germany for a full post, for now let's just say that I can confirm fatt's analysis (many thanks!).
The five lucky testers of Rubicon, in order of posting, are Chicobo (243), rocketman222 (296), clannewton (305), incarnation (48), and Gauguin123 (496). Congrats! The number in parentheses indicates how close they were to the lucky number 2729.
Tomorrow I'll declare the qualified testers and post further instructions.

I chose # 729 and the winning number was 2729, 3 out of 4 is not bad , can i have a consolation prize.
Anyway... I think overall the method of play was very cool and clever, mixing chance and strategy to pick the numbers. Arg0 did a great job setting the rules, you just have to read them carefully and not jump into conclusions.

...and here are the qualified testers for Rubicon, selected by me and Oscar (in order of posting): AndySmith, patrickhrdlicka, NextLevel, JimT, elmo51
In making the selection, we considered the quality and quantity of previous testing, the players' playing characteristics and styles, and their (declared) knowledge of Nexy. We also tried to strike a balance for testers who applied for both Rubicon and Karis. Yet, two testers were selected for both Rubicon and Karis, because we are also interested in combined reviews. Thus, in exchange for receiving both a Rubicon blade and a pair of Karis rubbers, AndySmith and patrickhrdlicka, please review them both separately and in combination. This also applies to Gauguin123, who won both contests as lucky tester.
All selected testers, both lucky and qualified, please send me a PM with your real name and shipping address. You
will then receive instructions on how to proceed with your order, on
top of which you will get the free blade and/or rubbers.
Thanks to all for participating!

Thanks for the opportunity. I should say that Nexy really did a lot to promote their blades and rubbers on our forum - over the last few years there has been a lot of testing, posting, reviewing - a lot of time and effort to promote Nexy and TT in the US. Best of luck and happy wishes to all in the new 2017!

Just ordered my copy of test Rubicon from the Nexy's store. Too bad they only use a rather expensive EMS service for shipping but I guess Nexy prefers that packages go with insurance and delivery guarantee.

To all testers, if you get high shipping costs (higher than say $30-$35), please use the contact links/forms on the web pages of the shops (and/or the email address I sent you via PM) to get in contact with the Nexy staff and wait for their reply before finalising the order. As I could see from the emails I am put in CC, you will normally get a reply with a reasonable shipping quote and if you are charged more by the online shop, they will refund the difference.

Testers, in case shipping costs via EMS (about $30-35) are too high for
you, the staff at Nexy proposed to ship parcels under 2kg via Korean
post, which costs $10-18, depending on the destination country. It is
cheaper, but will take around 20-30 days for delivery. If you are fine with that, contact Nexy via email or the contact page on the shop, before finalising your order.

I'd be more than willing to shell out EMS 30-35 USD for postage for a test blade. 1/4 of the price of it & I get to play it & write a subjective review after that & the best part is that I get to keep it, right? Not a big ding on my wallet at all.

I've finished my Rubicon review now. If any well-known forum members of good repute want to give Rubicon a try then please get in touch and I'm happy to post it out to you, with test sheets of Karis if you want. In return - you pay for postage, promise to write a review, and send it back to me at some point (as opposed to selling it or trading it for coaching, as some amazing people have done in the past).
