The Final match was pretty spectacular!

Alex's Forehand Loop-kill - greatest combination of power and precision.....

Following is a report by Carvo:

Hi all,

September 17, 2006

Today at the Pacific Mall Open in Scarborough Ontario, Alex Li once again emerged victorious this time in the finals, his opponent was from USA! As a matter of fact this event was an international event with another player Ray Negal also from USA and from Bufalo.

And what an interesting matchup it turned out to be! Game 1 proved to a scoping out of both players and before Alex knew it, the fiery Yong Ren took the first game in fine style.

Prior to this match, it was observed that while Yong was playing against Iraj, he would always defend the first ball and then counter others.... Not so with Alex! He served with to Alex forehand and followed up with a
cross court attack that certainly caught Alex. Though Alex would do the same when he served, Yong would sometimes surprise him with his sudden block wide to the forehand side.

It is therefore amazing that Alex was able to the 3 conceding games, but it was certainly a tough battle! ever heard Alex shout when he wins a point? Well today was the case!

For a job well done.. Congrats to both players for putting on such a great show!

And speaking of shows.... For those who missed it, the match between Danny Li and Iraj
WOW very entertaining!

The results are
1st                   2nd                     3rd
U1000
Jai-wei Liu          Jason Leung          Ruel Vergarz
U2000
Terence Leung        Li Qui               David Pang
OPEN
Alex Li (ON)        Yong Ren (Buf USA) (3-1)

And speaking of Jaiwei.... Did she really beat Steven Chow in the OPEN???

Many thanks to the Pacific Mall and the organisers in once again in having this annual event.

Congratulations Alex Li and other finalists! Alex Li shouting after each point? It sounds like it was an intense and entertaining match! Again congrats.

This was the best match I've seen Alex Li play, and I've seen him play quite a few.  He looped, both cross court and down-the line and blocked Ren Yong, outplaying the New York player, who is very tough and high ranked.
