If I had to guess, it does not have anything to do with the rubber but with the plastic ball. Some of the newer balls have some kind of dust or powder on the surface which makes them feel a little "raw". So, anyway, whenever we use a new ball (we primarily play with Nittaku Premium and the new Sanwei ABS), it (at first) leaves some white dust markings on the rubber, but it does not really affect play. After a few hours of play, one cannot feel any of the dust/powder anymore on the ball...

New ABS balls are often kind of dusty and leave those kinds of marks on your rubber.

When ever I get new balls I put them in a strainer and rinse them off before use. That way I don't have to deal with that white powder .

SCURF CLEANER.

Yes, as per usual most of international umpires will take off the white plastic scurf from the new balls by using their own pocket snotrag.

It is antihygienic anyway, so a German enterpriser did offer a "scurf cleaner" as the best hygienic cleaner, for the good of the German domestic umpires.

The powder affects tacky rubbers, after even a short period of multiball training, it creates a layer on the rubber that I can't just blow off with my breath and rubbing. I can't say it wrecks tacky rubber play, but it's not something I can just ignore.

You just need to breathe on it more! sometimes this happened to my hurricane, you really just have to keep breathing low, heavy breaths until the condensation builds up to the point that it almost feels wet, so you can brush the dust off.

I was speaking with regards to the ABS ball in particular, we use double fish v40+ at our club and I also have them with my robot at home. The previous poly/cellulose acetate balls worked with the method you described but with the new ball I need to droll on my rubber to get it off practically Embarrassed

It comes with some grinding sheets as well. Does the tool sand the ball surface too?

That's pretty crazy! I am indeed talking from experience with the old poly ball, I haven't competed with new balls with the newer poly ball yet!

So you need to waste a rubber to clean the ball?  Even an old rubber, how many balls can you clean with one rubber?  Seems like they should provide some reusable item instead of a rubber.
