Mississauga Rattlers Open (Jan 14, 2007)
RESULTS Without doubles this time, our second Open tournament went more smoothly than the November version and culminated with the expected victory of Robert Roberts (USA/Barbados) in the Open event. Desmond Wilson gave him a hard time in the final, which he lost 1-3, but ultimately could not get through his opponent�s lob defense. I guess he is not used to seeing his kill-shots returned consistently. Desmond also deserves credit for beating Danny Ly in the semis and fearless Pei-Pei Zheng in the quarters. Pei-Pei, the other star of the tournament, unexpectedly dismissed Iraj Golmohammadi in the open and Dave Lau in the U-2300. She only lost in the final of that event, and by the narrowest of margins, to Chandru Krishnan. It�s nice to see a female counter-puncher disturb established patterns on the male side. Now if someone could only give her some chopped returns to deal with...
