The main difference is the bat direction. Ma Long does his with the bat pointing upwards while Niwa does it with the bat pointing forward. I personally use Niwa's version because it seems to be a bit more consistent and generates more underspin. The chopblock with the bat pointing upwards can have a lot more spin variation but there's less underspin I feel...

Lefty chop block is likely harder to deal with.

Koki Niwa is known for his, Ma Long is known for his everything else lol

Has anyone seen a good tutorial on how to do it?

A 1300 level player in Corpus has a very disruptive reverse backhand chop block.  By reverse I mean he hits with the Bh side of the paddle but with the paddle on the Fh side of his body.  He seems to do it only in reaction to being surprised at a ball coming to his elbow or near Fh when he was expecting it on Bh.  It seems to be an instinctive thing and I am not sure if he can consciously choose to hit it or not.  It is really frustrating to hit a great loop right to his elbow,  see he is not ready for it, and then out of nowhere this weird side-chop block comes back at a strange angle and with who knows what kind of spin is on it.

He does it often enough that I know it is not just a fluke.
