a 2100 player is 2100 average skill against all kinds of styles.  if one has to prepare only for one specific style, i think it is possible to be have a lower level general skill, but very high skill against one style, with enough focused training. for example he can train set plays. since you can't put your own spin on the return, it would be easy for him to train on the set plays since he doesn't need to prepare for a wide variety of returns.

I'lll mention it again....

It is quite easy to get to a level and start to over justify how you play, how good you are and who you'll beat. This can be a bit of a slippery slope  ......and can lead to bragging and coming across a bit big headed, confident is good wanting to win is great but the first couple are not they are usually followed by ......a red face... and I don't mean t that in a disrespectful way either as I think PB is a rather interesting character and good for discussion.

I don't disagree.. We have a guy at the club who is a "specialist" against long pips, especially low friction ones..  In about 30 matches against him, I have never beaten him.. Since a few months, I actually passed his rating but he still beats me. (even though his rating is not really a actual reflection of his skills as he doesn't play too many tournaments and he would be a lot higher if he would). He is 2226 rated and I'm 2246. Recently, I had my closest loss ever to him.. He beat me 4:3 in a best of 7 match (he always wants to play best of 7), 11:8 in the fifth. I'm getting closer and closer and eventually, I'll even beat the long pips expert..

I'm fairly confident but I do have the record to back it up... In several years of playing, I have a record of extremely rarely losing to anybody much lower rated than myself

Here's the chart of my performance (check the 2nd graphic that shows wins and losses)

In all those years that I've been playing, I only lost 1 match to someone over 200 points lower than me (204 points) and that player was unrated and only got such a low rating because he lost to a underrated player to get his low initial rating.. I only lost 4 matches to anybody over 100 points lower than myself and I've played 100's of matches. So, right now, based on that statistic, the chances of losing to  anybody more than 100 points lower than me are about 1 - 2 %. This means that there is a 98% chance or so that I'll beat someone with a 2146 rating or lower..  Let's say that it's only a 80% chance but I still like my chances..

After watching the video, my estimate of that guy is also around 2100 +/- 50 (USATT).
That is 2050 to 2150.

PB's disadvantage is that so many PB's videos are out there, the guy can study them to find out where is PB's strength and where is PB's weakness and what mistakes PB's opponents made (and try not to make them).

Being the best long pimple blocker without an offensive stroke is like winning the paralympics. Nobody really gives a f**k. You can defend your style and your mental abilities all you want. People know that you're stubborn and no matter what is thrown you'll find some justification as to why your style is skillful. Sure, you're a good player and it requires skill but that's where this conversation should end.

Did he even ask you to give a f**K?  That's so funny... And who are the "people" you are talking about?  People like you?

Winning the paralympics is a lot harder than you think... Even with your arms and legs intact you probably can't take a single game from many top Paralympics players.

He doesn't have anything to prove and neither do I. I havn't pretended or bignoted my own skills. The only thing i've mentioned is that i do well against non inverted rubbers from the selection i have to play against.

Do you care or even know who won the paralympics? My point is that a lot more people care about the regular olympics than the paralympics. I admit i may have been a bit harsh but the point is still there.

The Paralympic Champion is Ma Lin from China, a solid 2700-level player.

I train regularly with Norman Bass, a well-known U.S. Paralympic player.  I am also a friend of Mitch Seidenfeld, one of the best Paralympic players in history in his category.  Paralympic players train as hard as regular players.

It's another Ma Lin.  Smile
Top twenty Paralympic players in the world are about 2400-2700... One of them, Tahl L. from U.S. was rated 2500+ and he could beat most U.S. top male "regular" players during his prime.

yes I am surprised too. I would probably rate you around 1850- 1900 tops.  Most players in my club rated over 1850+ would probably smoke you (fruitloop).

I find the closer you get to the table, the tougher a player seems to be, and the furthest away tends to be video.
