my forhand is struggling, and i was just wondering.... are you suppose to cock your wrist back on ur backswing, and snap it on contact? Or only at certain times with a forhand? Or not at all?
THANKS

Hi PINGO
You didnt say which your doing, which would have been helpful to the people you expect to answer yr question:-)
Cocking and uncocking is not wrong, but it means more moving parts.

If you do it, it has to be consistent same way each time everytime, or you'll lose consistency.

If you are just starting try without at first.

Waldner is a good example of a player who uses his wrist on every topspin drive, but I would imagine there are some amateurs who should stay away from this technique.
Only you can decide if the benefit will out weigh the negative in your case

I use a variation, i've been experimenting with my forehand, because it seems to go right into the net. I am probably hitting under 45% of my forhands when i go for a hard loop. I was just asking if cocking would help increase consitancy I guess..... It seems I can only loopdrive with consistancy, but if the ball comes under the net, I have to play it softly because I can never land my loop on the table.

You still havent stated clearly what yr problem is or whether its against chop only for instance.
I recommend:
Distinguish between topspin against chop and against block, and practice them seperately.

Against chop concentrate on lifting the ball, not on power.
In particular concentrate on landing your shot near the end line. (a mistake off the end is not as bad as a shot in the net.)
play at a speed whereby you get 20 without a mistake without having to warmup. Continue with that speed untill you can get 50 then up the speed, aiming at 40. Then continue untill you get 60.. You get the idea

Similar practice against block

When you can do 100 of either within 10 mins of starting yr practice then you will be on the right road hopefully

Later on you'll be able to try 1000 ball drills

This emphasis on slow start is vital. Practice slow with the aim of playing matches with fast grooved strokes
good luck

I don't use wrist because it's easier to vary the amount of spin, you can get a lot of topspin or very little topspin, you can drive, loop drive etc.

no problem.
Advice is still the same:
practice slowly aiming for consistency, with good length and height over net. falkenberg might be a good thing for you to try at a steady speed. You have to make a choice about yr wrist action and stick to it for a while

Your wrist shouldn't move; when it moves the bat deflects more on contact, resulting in more poor quality shots.

yes, thats the correct way... what is your problem ? if you constantly missed your shots.. it could be your elbow moving up while snaping on contact... that makes things very awkward. I have seen many people do the forehand loop with the very funny elbow movement.
