The A. Grubba is a good allround blade but the quality has been on the poor side the last year or so. No longer is that model made in Japan...but in China. Maybe I just got a lemon? The old Japanese versions where great!

DHS Classic Hurricane blade is ALL+ rated 
NITTAKU Monophonic is DEF+ rated, but at least ALL in speed
TSP Fiblerglass 2.5 and 3.5 are excellent choices

If you're fortunate enough to find it, Butterfly Defence II. It's very suitable for modern defence because it's stiff enough for attacking, but also slow enough to chop with control.

another defender at our club uses yasaka's sweden classic. from what he tells me it pairs well with a lot of rubbers too, pips and inverted.

Yinhe 980 has a very comfortable FL handle, it's medium size (almost identical to the BTY Joo Se Hyuk), light weight about 82 to 92gr, and it is very nice on the counterattack. All in all a very nice inexpensive defensive blade.
