Quote The 2023 edition will take place from 11 to 19 March, with the main draw starting on a Saturday - instead of Monday in the first edition - to attract more fans to see the top paddlers compete in the opening weekend. Organisers are in discussion for the venue of the event.

The second Saturday will be billed as “Semifinal Saturday”, which will see two semi-final sessions, with each featuring one of the men’s or women’s doubles finals.

Action on the Infinity Arena - the main competition hall - will see five matches per session during the early rounds. Meanwhile, the viewer experience has been improved in the second competition hall with two more show tables, meaning more matches for the fans to watch.

...

More mixed doubles pairs in the 2023 event

WTT has confirmed that the mixed doubles draw will increase from 16 pairs to 24 pairs for the 2023 event.

It will also increase the number of seeds in the singles competitions from eight to 16 players. This means that the top 16 players will not be drawn to play against one another in first-round matches, allowing better chances for top paddlers to advance into the later stages.

Too bad that Lin Shidong does not get a wildcard to play in this event. Pretty interesting to see how he performs after the GOA star contender.

The bigger problem here is the wildcards have been given to the host players and no WTT nominations have been handed out.

MS
Wildcards: Main draw 3/4, Qualification 5/6
WTT nominations: 0/2

WS
Wildcards: Main draw 3/4, Qualification 3/6
WTT nominations: 0/2
Viscaria FL - 91g

Why has WTT not nominated the 2 wildcards? The tournament starts in less than one day.

Yeah, I don't think Miwa would turn down the money/ranking points so it's sad that she did not get a wildcard or nomination.

She really should have played the Contender Durban 2023 where she really had a good chance to ensure a spot in the Singapore Smash.  But short of that, WTT should have given her a nomination.  A while back, apacible and I discussed this:

Result-wise, Zhang Rui probably has better results than Miwa in recent events, I guess.

WTT probably does not care about who has better TT future as many of spectators do.

They are using RNG instead of manual draw?

Lin Shidong's got some tough test(s) straight away. First match against Karlsson and if he wins he'd likely face Ma Long the next round. Rough draw for ML as well as the #2 seed, having to face the winner of Karlsson and LSD in R32 assuming he beats Duda.

I see Vitor Ishiy is into the main draw after his loss, was their 1 random spot left?

He played Alfred Dela-Pena from New Zealand in the first round and Vitor won. Alfred was invited to go to Singapore 1 week earlier so had to confirm and fund raise to go.
No other sport runs like this, poor Alfred coaching little kids one day and 3 days later in Singapore with no preparation.

I think group play would be better for the qualification system. Then knockout for the top 2 from each group
just a long way to travel for one game of knockout.

Yes, he must have received the lucky loser spot.  I count 55 players in Main Draw list + 8 qualifiers + 1 lucky loser = 64.
