Hi,
I am looking for a light yet medium hard sponge (hardness like Xiom Sigma 1 Euro or Omega IV Pro) but significantly lighter than these. Any suggestions? |

those are not that heavy. Nothing will be 'significantly' lighter. Stiga has light rubbers but they are of lower quality overall in my opinion.

I am using Sigma 2 Pro as of now which is a bit heavier compared to Xiom Sigma 1 Euro. I could do with a bit softer and a lot lighter rubber.

it might be better to switch to a lighter blade. for example, yesterday I found that m1 max works great on stiga offensive nct. So I switched blade (previously I had clipper) to use m1. Loops have much more quality and more variation.

Unless you have some medical reason for a super light blade, anything up to 200g is fine. What's more important than weight is the perceived balance, feel etc. So basically any of the rubbers will do.

The problem is with the balance of the blade and not the weight.
I play Xiom Sigma Euro on both side on a Hayabusa Zxi. The overall setup in 181 gms which is not heavy at all. The problem is the head heavy balance which makes my wrist hurt after fake movements n serve and my BH opening topspin off heavy backspin. I've tried grip tape to balance it off but to no avail. I've also sanded off a bit off the neck and am holding the blade a little higher, but its still a little head heavy. Edited by ashishsharmaait - 07/04/2013 at 1:29am |

Change the rubbers to Vega Euro - they are the lightest.

it is easy to make the handle heavier if you want to tweak it a bit. For example, I use this product (http://www.pattex.it/fai-da-te/adesivi/millechiodi/millechiodi-original.html) to turn flared handles into straight handles: when it dries it becomes hard like wood. It is similar to stucco but it does not crumble off, it sticks to the handle. And it also makes the handle heavier. You can use that around the handle, or, if you don't want to change the handle shape, and your handle is hollow, you can drill a hole at the bottom and fill it with this product.

Maybe try wearing a large wristband on your playing hand in addition to the grip tape. I learned this from an old post by Stavros (link: http://mytabletennis.net/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=33694&PN=1). The idea is to add weight to your hand which is another way of lowering the racket's balance. It might sound weird, but I've been using a wristband ever since I read this post. It really works!

The lightest medium rubber you can find is Cornilleau Pulse Racer.
Otherwise I think Calibra LT or Calibra Tour H are quite light medium/hard rubbers. Also Joola Rhyzm is not that heavy and is very good.

Sword Backhand II is another option. A cut sheet of 2.0 mm version should weigh around 40-42 g.

RACKET SET FEELS TOO HEAVY? JUST CHANGE BALANCE..... I would positively uphold every reasoning by Br. Tinykin afore here that the racket's mass center location is far superior over absolute racket mass... Screwing some steel bolt 8-10gr into the handle may be a good help for you to adjust racket balance up to your individual feeling of playing comfort. Edited by igorponger - 07/04/2013 at 6:03pm |
