    Posted: 02/09/2017 at 9:33pm
I'm currently using Sriver G3 on both forehand and backhand with Nittaku Flyatt Carbon (OFF-) for the last year. I need to replace the rubber as it is gettting worn down, but the Sriver G3 is too expensive at $56/sheet.

I'm a novice/intermediate player and plays offensively; mostly close to the table or mid distance with combination smash, drives, blocks, and loops on both forehand and backhand. My backhand technique is weaker and is developing slower while my FH is my strength currently.

Ideally I'd like to keep the same rubber as I like the behavior and characteristics of the G3 and want to keep developing my game without changing the equipment too much. I like the speed, spin, and control of the G3 but price is too high.

What alternative should I replace the G3 with? Xiom Vega Pro for both FH and BH? Xiom Vega Pro FH and Vega Europe BH? Whatever rubber I pick next, I'd like to keep the same combination for the next 2-3 years.

Thanks for the help!

Consider this advice from one broke person to another if you have found something u like, stick with it. When u start experimenting u will end up spending 100s of dollars and even then u may not find something u actually like better than G3.

if you worry about rubber is too fast or way to bouncy pick something non porous.
But vega pro is a solid chioce at 2.0 thickness.
from state mention above seem like you want  hard FH , soft BH ???
pick Vega Pro FH and asia(DF) for BH.
I'm no longer an EJ and I'm proud .

Thanks for the advice.  While I agree with your point that I might not find a replacement I like and end up costing more to find a replacement; currently, I play at a club regularly 3-4 times week and clean my paddle with a cleaner regularly to prolong it; so if I keep using the G3 and play at the same rate I would need to regularly spend $112 to replace those rubbers regularly.  I've kept the same sheets for the last year so far.

How often do others replace their rubbers if playing 3-4 times a week?

No I don't have a preference between hard or soft rubbers on either FH/BH.  I've read a couple forum threads and reviews on Xiom Vega series; and the combination of Euro for BH and Pro for FH come up quite often.  In general, it seems like most other players prefer a softer rubber on the BH for more control? To keep it simple, I would probably want both BH and FH to be the same; so would a Vega Pro work both for BH and FH?

Have you play with a Vega Pro or G3? How do they compare with each other?

I play 3-4 times a week.  I use Tenergy 05 and replace it 2 to 3 times a year.

I guess u can try some tibhar evolution rubber. U can get them for arounf 40$ on sites like and dandoy and table tennis11. If u get 3 u get one additional rubber so that's a good deal.

U might be able to figure out which exact one u want by Checking out this review.

+1

Seriously, finding a rubber you like is half the battle...

As you improve you may be searching for "something" in a rubber and change...

I doubt both sides have worn at the same time, so why not change one side of G3..?

Trying to find a Butterfly equivalent rubber could send you on a merrygoround of trial and error...

....right back to where you started...

I used Sriver G3 for about three years.  I recommend Galaxy Moon or Moon Speed.  It surpasses some of the qualities of Sriver G3.

I adored Sriver G3 as my backhand rubber many years ago so am following to see what you end up with.
I'm playing with Tenergy 80 these days after changing to a slower blade.

Sorry I can't really help but am interested to see what you end up using.

G3 is interesting because it's not quite at the level of Tenergy but it's a step above speed glue rubbers.  If you aren't into the Tenergy/Tenergy alternative rubbers, maybe try looking into Tibhar Aurus and Nimbus and Xiom Vega Pro and Vega Europe.

Good luck with your search.

Do you know Yasaka Rakza 7 Soft? I found it a very good BH rubber.
