Hello everyone,
I'm looking to switch from Cypress-S Jpen to a shakehand blade while keeping the same loop-drive style of play. Basically what I'm looking for is a shakehand blade with similar properties to the Cypress-S blade. I used to use H3 NEO on the forehand of my Jpen blade and I plan on doing the same for whatever shakehand blade I decide on. Since it's difficult to find people who are well-versed in both Jpen and shakehand blades, all I've had to go on are the PaddlePalace.com speed and control statistics from their website. In which case, I have narrowed down my options to the YEO and Nittaku Septear as they seem to resemble the Cypress-S in their ratings. Does anyone have any recommendations, or can confirm the comparisons I've just made? Thanks for reading.

Simply for the purposes of answering my own question for future readers, I have some shakehand alternatives to the Cypress-S Japanese penhold blade. I've deduced that these are good alternatives based on reviews of blades by forum members and the Japanese Butterfly blade performance chart, which can be accessed at this address:
The Butterfly Petr Korbel blade is of comparable speed, if not slightly slower, in relation to the Cypress-S blade. However, the ability to control the Korbel is more difficult according to charts and manufacturer/distributor ratings. The feel of the two blades is not too different, with the Korbel being the harder blade of the two. Secondly, the Butterfly Power Drive II also bears some similarities to the Cypress-S. They both share similar purposes: "drive" style rackets with powerful capabilities for topspin. Although, the Power Drive II is faster and more difficult to control. The feel of the Power Drive II was not reported in any of the reviews I read, while its role as a mid-distance looping blade was apparently noteworthy.

I don't have a lot of shakehanders, so I won't sound too convincing, but it looks (and feels - to me) like Donic Waldner Senso Carbon comes close to Cypress-S - they are both classics in their departments anyway
I think Yasaka Extra Offensive would be another good choice, actually, but I can't be so sure until I receive mine (this week, hopefully, but it'll be a cpen). |

Thanks for you response stefashka.
Would you mind commenting on any similarities or differences between your YEO and Cypress-S when you receive it; if you have the time to, of course.

Lately, I am seeing here in Korea a large number of J-Pen players switching to shakehand. They play with anything the coach gives them, and after a while, you wouldn't know they were former penholders. They are using anything from earthquake vibrating Stiga wood blades to Schlager Carbon.

I imagine I could take that approach because, assuming you play a lot, you would get used to whatever blade you transition to, it would just be a matter of time. Are you an American living in Korea?
