Hi everyone,
I've been playing table tennis since 2002 until 2008, I'm fluent in Chinese and I've gone through most of the training videos online as well as the coaching papers provided on this website. I've also had months of training in China where I've been taught the correct technique for the basic strokes. Since 2008, I stopped for two years due to work commitments. My goal is to recover my strokes. The problem is, the only decent coach that is available is a 70 year old ex Chinese national team player who is outdated with his training regime. The most obvious giveaway is his insistence that the correct forehand looping technique is to use the forearm to articulate the upper arm while neglecting to mention any of the modern fundamentals of using your waist, etc. Rather than pay him for coaching, I thought it might be more worthwhile for me to invest in a table tennis robot instead. That way, I won't have to worry about how to block out the coach's wrong advice while practicing. I haven't looked at what is available for years and so far I've only looked at one of a kind trading reviews. I'm not sure whether they are in any way biased or not. My budget is up to $2000 USD. I do not want to pay for extravagant functions like multiple programming that I will not use. I'm looking for one that is reliable, accurate, has multiple spin options and can shoot at various heights. Can anyone in this forum give any advice as to what robot is generally accepted as being a good sweetpoint for value and quality. Has the technology changed in recent years? Will some of the later models released this year be superior to those in previous years? Any advice would be highly appreciated. Thanks! |

With a budget of 2000USD you really can't go wrong with the Newgy RoboPong 2050. It does do all the basic things you are asking. And eventually you may want the option to work on drills to work on your footwork. The Newgy website sells the robot for $799 USD it is a quality machine for the price you pay. http://www.newgy.com/default.aspx

The only issue i have with the Newgy is that it is only single headed, meaning you can't increase speed without increasing spin.

I'd love to try the XuShaoFa. That piece of hardware that looks to come back from USSR in the 1950's is irresitible: everything is preprogrammed! I wonder the accuracy over time though; and also the variations depending the balls used.
With such a budget I'd buy all the cartridges available and still be under $1500.

I've just spoken to one of the suppliers of XuShaofa here in Australia and he said he said that the robot suffers from serious design issues.

I've narrowed it down now to two robots:
The AMDT TW2700-s9 and the Y&T s27 Apparently the Y&T machine is better but I can get the AMDT machine for $280 less. Anyone know what the better deal is? |

Ended up getting the s27 for $200 difference because of the silicone rather than the foam tips
